How do you feel about Dooley now?

I was on the fence until the last couple of games.

I am now not a Dooley fan.

I am very appreciative that he has turned this team into a good bunch of kids that are staying out of trouble for the most part. The VFL program has been a hit and he has really cleaned up this program.

With that being said. Saban has a phenominal program and you hardly ever hear of any of his guys getting into trouble.

I was a Dooley supporter but no more. With the talent on this team, they should be winning a lot more than what they have, they need to keep these kids off of twitter, get the kids 100% focused, and bring some spark back into Knoxville.

I'll tell you, Dooley is not ready for this caliber of program. He was a marginal, at best, coach at La Tech, and never held a real position at an SEC school.

We need someone to come in and turn this thing into a winning program again. Not sure who would take the job, but there is a lot of talent left on the team and should be a great position for someone should they decide to take this program. Dooley cannot take this program to the next level. Unfortunately reality has set in and it is time for a change.

Amazing, three years later and there are still some who haven't figured this out.

I have my doubts three decades with Dooley as HFC would be enough time for them. :hi:

I'm not anti-Dooley at all. I think the difference between good teams in the SEC and UT right now is talent.

1. Is Dooley the best coach in the SEC? Absolutely not!!

2. Is our team the most talented in the SECe? Absolutely not!!!

Lets face it, as much as we want to say that we have the talent we need in every position it's just not true. Recruits like Patterson, Pig, McNeil, etc shine on the big stage and that's why they have more than 3 stars beside their names.

I look at it this way, CMR(UGA) is not a great coach but they win because they have talent. CLM(LSU) isn't a great coach but his team has the talent.

We are recruiting and still in rebuilding mode. Until we get the talent, no coach would be able to walk into UT and compete in the SECe.

Again, I also agree that CDD has a LOT room for improvement and the buck stops at the Head Coach. But I'm just calling a Spade a Spade....it is what it is!!!

Note** I actually don't think we were more talented at every position (2 deep) than MissST.

Take Harbaugh for example. He arrived at Stanford with less talent than Tennessee has now and his teams were slug it out smash your face in warriors for him. They brought the fight each week just from being coached up that way. Coaching is everything.....ask Arkansas if you don't believe me.

We have to do something or I am not going to have any furnishings left in my house...

I said after the GA game (when some said we made these great strides) that we were still poorly coached. I also said two weeks to prepare with these great strides that the MSU game has to be a win. Well here we are but I will wait to see the rest of the year play out. I think at this point it is inevitable what will happen but I keep hopping for a miracle.

By the way I don't want to hear MSU has more talent. That is not true they are just empowered with a winning attitude. Mullen has changed the culture like The Ole Ball Coach at SC. Winners win period.

Our recruiting this year is not on par with what it has been even under Dooley. In fact I don't think it would be that difficult for someone to come in at this point and have at least as good a class as we were going to have under Dooley.

Oh yes it is. We are/were set to get commits from Green (number 1 RB), and North (top 5 WR). The VOLS are also In the top 3 for several highly rated recruits.

Nice novel. Are you thinking about getting it published?

That is really the question, who would we bring in? Outside of Gruden, who hasn't expressed any interest publickly that I am aware of, who would Tennessee go after? I am not aware of any Spurriers or Sabans or Carrolls coming out of the pro ranks to throw a gazillion dollars at to bring here. There really is no "hot" young coach prepping at a lesser school to be snapped up by our program, so "Who Would We Hire?"

I agree with the bulk of the posters on here that Dooley has one leg over the edge and the other one on a banana peel but, in his defense, crap he can't do anything about what keeps happening on the field. If Bray doesn't fumble against Georgia, who knows? If Devrin doesn't fumble on the 30, who knows? I'm sure Dooley didn't go to each of them and say, "Let's fumble the ball and see what happens!" Maybe we are a million miles away from where we want to be, but maybe we're closer than we think.

I'm tired of losing. I'm tired of trying to find excuses for why we lost this one or that one. I want to beat Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and ALABAMA and I want to beat them savagely.

My perspective might be slightly different from a lot of posters on here. I started following Tennessee during the Bill Battle years. The first Tennessee game that I ever watched was the game against Penn State on ABC when Bobby Majors almost single handedly dismantled Penn State. I had to suffer through the last Battle year when we couldn't beat the Blind School. It took Johnny Majors five years before Tennessee started really competing in the SEC again. I remember what it is like to lose to Alabama for twelve years in a row.

So what am I saying? Take the long approach not the short one. If Dooley is not the coach then he is not the coach but he is rebuilding a badly depleted program. I hate losing. I hate watching my beloved Vols come up short time and time again. I hate losing to Florida and I am going to hate losing to Alabama next week but, you know what, we could beat them. We could beat South Carolina. I truly believe that Tennessee is very close to winning again. I believe that we are close to competing on the SEC and National stage. Will Dooley be the coach? I don't know. I do know that no good thing lasts forever and know bad thing lasts forever. Tennessee is due for good things happening to them and, I believe, Coach Dooley is just as capable of getting them there as anyone.

This is a secret coaching search. It's dishonorable to campaign for someones job.

I would argue we had talent enough to defeat Miss. State, if coached properly. If we hadn't tried this 3-4 defensive experiment things would be pretty different. Also, if you look at the recruiting class that Dooley is pulling in, we'll never catch up to the Florida's, Georgia's and Bamas. Never.

Again, is Dooley playing?

Are those things on Dooley?

At some point you have to concede that his is not the 90's and we don't have an SEC caliber roster. It just facts.
Really, this is all u got? This argument does not hold water any longer. Stupid to continue using this as argument. This team has not shown one ounce of improvement. If they have taken one or two steps forward, it always seems to fall ten steps behind.

Folks, I recall a few years ago how so many in the forum thought that Tennessee football was in such a mess that nobody but someone like Dooley would want to take it on. No big names were biting. Remember? Regardless, we all know what has happened and it is what it is. Dooley inherited a tough situation and, at least in part because of negativity of some around the program, assistants decided to leave. The fact is that he is just in his third season and still working like crazy to get the program back. Anyone who is paying attention can see where we are now compared to where we have been. I truly believe that coach Dooley needs another year to show that he is getting us where we all want to be. If we keep jumping from coach-to-coach, then we will be nothing more than Vandy searching for the holy grail. Coach Dooley is a fine coach and pretty much anyone I talk to from other teams feel the same.(no I don't need to hear that stuff that they want us to keep him because he is no good. Seen it before). Yes, last night was VERY frustrating, but these athletes and coaches want to win more than anyone on this forum. Most of you have no idea what it takes to really compete at an elite level. Lighten up, support your team, and give them a little more time. I believe you will be rewarded.
