I dont have a huge issue with Mullen, although hes not one of my top choices.
This issue is you have to be sure that recruiting/facilities, etc. at Mississippi State are the reason he hasnt won more. Personally, Im not 100% convinced.
We could do worse though. I think that it at least shows a commitment from the AD to go after Mullen and not another mid-major hopeful.
Here's the issue as i see it. If Currie hires lets say Frost, if he turns into Butch 2.0 it will cost him his job. Someone like Mullen will bring in stabilization and good coaching. If the hire is Mullen, he will need to surround himself with some good recruiters. this time around i do believe the money will be available to hire top notch assistants.

I'm afraid that's true. Mullen will probably fill the stands, but he'll give us a trip to Atlanta once every 10 years.
I don't think Mullen will recruit very well. I suspect that we'll be in the 15 to 20 range, which will put us behind UF and UGA. We will probably end our streak against Bama in another 5 years.
Literally once out of ten years is better than our last ten years. By the way, i think Mullen gets us to three, minimum, East division titles in ten years.

Yep.For the record, I don't know if Gruden is a pipe dream or not. My argument is that Scott Frost and Dan Mullen are actually BETTER HIRES than Gruden. Gruden is a high-risk hire, whose system has already failed spectacularly in college under Bill Callahan at Nebraska. I'm not saying Gruden wouldn't be better than Callahan, but he's far far from a "home run" and a much riskier hire than most of the Gruden maniacs here are willing to admit. Many NFL coaches have also stated that Gruden's biggest weakness is player development --- WHICH IS A VERY VERY BAD WEAKNESS TO HAVE IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL! College is much more about player development than X's and O's; whereas the NFL is the reverse.
Mullen who has a proven track record of taking one of the worst programs in the SEC, and going to 8 straight bowl games, including a BCS Bowl. He won 2 national championships at Florida, coached a Heisman Trophy winner, and an NFL #1 pick. He's achieved his results as Miss State playing in the toughest division in college football, routinely playing at least 5 - 6 games per season where the other team has vastly more talent than his team (Bama, LSU, Auburn, A&M, Ole Miss, Georgia 2017).
I look at Mullen's resume and it's much more impressive than Gruden's resume when it comes to coaching college football. Gruden, for the record, I think would recruit well, but so did Bill Callahan, Jim Mora, Dave Wannstadt, and Mike Sherman ... and all those former NFL coaches failed. Gruden was an above-average NFL coach, but many above-average NFL coaches have failed in college football.
Have no idea what people see in Mullen. He's won nothing of note, has a losing record in the SEC and potential NCAA baggage. Any coach we hire and pay $5 million to needs to have won something somewhere. That isn't Mullen. I'm tired of hiring guys who haven't done much at another place and thinking he drink from the magic gourd in Knoxville. Not happening.
Norvell can take a hike, too.
Frost has a chance to be better. Mullen certainly wont be. Mullen is simply safer.
Gruden has the highest ceiling by a wide margin.
How can you think that about Gruden??? ZERO college head coaching experience and the definition of the most mediocre nfl record. then there's eight years of stagnant rust that needs to be knocked off. why does everyone think gruden is so freaking great?! Mullen would be a clear cut better hire. Hands down.
Oh look someone else can make up a lie too. NCAA baggage? Gimme a break.
