The Official Dan Mullen Thread

Those unimpressed with his record at MSU need to keep in mind that Mississippi State historically has the lowest winning percentage and fewest wins in the SEC. Even Vandy and Kentucky have better all-time records!

That's not even close to being true.

So, if you have the choice, which coach would you hire? Patterson, Mullen or Frost? I think either is a great hire for Tennessee!

Patterson, Frost, Fuentes, Kelly, Tagart, Norvell. Then maybe Mullens. I've been a big fan of Fuentes, but I understand the apprehension due to lack of experience.

And for everyone that says Gruden has blown us off and to shut up about him coming here....

What about this? Mullen basically slammed the door on anyone thinking he’s leaving Mississippi state. Dudes grown roots down there. He made that clear. So, Shouldn’t we shut up about him now and move on to the official Scott Frost thread? Or the official Mike Norvell or whoever thread?

Yeah I remember Saban saying he wasn’t going to be Alabama’s coach.

If Gruden, Frost, Kelly, Patterson, Franklin, Fuentes, and Cooter turn us down, then yeah.

Wait wait wait...you would take a mediocre NFL offensive coordinator in the NFL that's never been a head coach at any level, never recruited, etc and make him the head coach of a top 10 university OVER Dan Mullen? Seriously?

I'll take Mullen or Patterson or Frost. We all know there is no way in He!! Gruden is coming. He's scared!

Sabans record at MSU was average at best. Out of five seasons, he only had two with more then 6 wins.. then went on to win a natty in year 4 at LSU.

Well now that Gruden has turned us down again, lets get behind Dan until he does the same. Ughhh. Come on AD. Get your guy locked up for once.

Dan Mullen would be a very good fit and hire at UT or UF, but probably even better at ATM.

He'd have top-tier facilities, resources and recruiting grounds (TX is loaded with HS DT QBs & spread offenses) there, as well as a fanbase that's more reasonable and patient in their expectations than UF and UT. Best of both worlds for him (& his family).

His floor there would likely be equal or above Sumlin's ceiling. Good roster in place; not a rebuild. Mullen (w/ Grantham or Chief) could hit the ground running there.

ATM should make a sweet offer. He'd probably take it.

I can see that.

Okay, if he's the great and wonderful master of offense and all things football...

Offer him $3.5 million a year. If he truly wants out of Moo State to a bigger stage, make him earn the salary we are capable of giving. He wins, he gets raises consummate with the amount of wins and prestige the team gets. He gets a top 10 recruiting class, that's a bonus in his check.

Let's see if he really wants to move to Tennessee to make them great or is just using our current vacancy for a raise where he continues to post 6-8 wins a year.

So he should take a million dollar a year pay cut to uproot his family? I'm feeling it's possible that economics isn't your area of expertise.

These people are insane aren't they?:)

Mullen has the best gig in all of college football, on schedule to get another raise and extension... and someone thinks he is going to take a pressure cooker job with a huge pay cut.

I'm feeling like I'm perfectly fine in my assessment. It's the coaching version of the Peter Principle. Why would I be willing to give a raise to a coach that's perfectly content to post 6-8 wins a year, not recruit and not try to upgrade their facilities?

It's simple economics. You win, you make more money. You win the SEC East, you make more money. You beat Alabama, make more money.

Earn that ****. Because so far, he has not and does not earn $4.5 million a year in a salary for what he's done in Starkville.

So, let's see if Mullen truly wants to better himself at a program you all are convinced sells itself or whether he's content to sit on his ass without having to do anything. Because he does not deserve a raise at this point.

Well, UT could offer him $1 as well, but nobody is stupid to take a pay cut to go to Tennessee or any other program.
