I wasn't much of a lunch guy when I was in the air Force, always seen lunch time as a hindrance to my day. However, one day a group of other senior enlisted all but forced me to go to lunch with them. They took me to Sir Sandwich and told me to get the american hot - not the Thai hot cause it was just to hot. Well, I like hot food (to a point), so I ordered the Thai hot (the dish that Pepper described above sounds just like the dish I was served).

It made the sweat bead up on my forehead, but not roll. THAT is the perfect amount of hotness. That food was damn good!

We cooked a spicy pan-fried noodle dish yesterday that was very easy to make.

1 LBS of Vermicelli
8 oz of diced beef
Diced carrot
Minced garlic
1 squeezed lime
6 green chili peppers crushed
2 tbsp fish sauce
Sprinkle of sugar
fresh basil

Got some Thai basil growing, along with regular. I’m looking forward to comparing them.

Good luck. The dark basil didn't wind up being dark for me last year. HA It must have been the wrong seeds sent is all I can figure.

I’ve always been intrigued by insects on the menu. I’ve never known if they actually taste good, something new and trendy or as an alternative food source. As someone that’s eaten food cooked in an old paint can over a fire, I would probably try it, but won’t go out of my way to do so.

There's a store here where you can buy flavored crickets, seriously. Ranch, bbq, etc., we tried some once, not too awful.

I’m not repulsed by the thought of trying them, just haven’t been in a situation of doing so. I’d like to try them first with no sauces, just to see what they taste like.
