The Official Butch Jones support thread...

Nope! Not from me! I support the Vols, and because of that fact I certainly hope that Butch succeeds. But after tonight and the season as a whole, I am having serious doubts about his ability to get the job done.

We talk a great game.

Just part of the process.

Snap and clear!

Gotta improve.

Were you laughing after the UF game?

You can't tell me you're going to compare UF to Ole Miss?

I wasn't laughing because that was a very winnable game that we simply blew.

This game was already over before it started, you really think we are going to beat a team who just beat bama? Did you see what Bama did to A&M today?

Coach Jones has my support.HELL we gave Doofus more time to rebuild from 1 year of kiffen. Now CBJ only gets 1.5 to fix four years of bad coaching new schemes and recruits leaving? Some of the posts on here are just craziness If we fire our coach we just press reset AGAIN. Please stop the madness. CBJ is a great coach.

Nobody's saying fire Jones, just that the embarrassing losses continue to pile up with no end in sight. No progress anywhere outside of the defense which is vastly improved. Nothing, absolutely nothing that Jones has done through 19 games supports your idea that he is a great coach. The evidence at this point clearly shows he's aversge to below average outside of recruiting.

I support butch 110% til year 4

These are not butches players and the ones who are are the ones making plays!! besides guys like AJ etc

If I was him I'd make that whole offence run til they cant stand no more while the defence gets the day off

Proof of him being a "great" coach? Bring a great recruiter doesn't make you a great coach ya know

I dont' care about the Ole Miss game. I really don't.

They're in Year 3 and worlds better than us, I dont' care.

I'm just pissed that Jones and his clowncar staff found a way to bungle the Florida game 2 YEARS IN A ROW.

4-8 loss.

Who knows where Florida ends up this year but it won't be good.

That is what bothers me.

Jones lost at home to a horrible Florida team with an abomination of a coach.

Jones and Freeze don't even belong in the same sentence. Except for this one.

After every loss by 1 point or 50 we get 35 knee jerk reaction threads. This team is so close. I know several of you are going to not see the forest for the trees, but there has been so much improvment.

There is so much that is not CBJ's fault.

1. CBJ did not tell Worley to go colorblind through most of the game.

2. CBJ did not tell North to disappear for most of the game.

3. He did not tell Evan Berry to fumble the kickoff.

4. He did not tell Dooley to recruit no OL in 2012.

5. It is not his fault that still some of the roster is not upto SEC standards and he has to keep them for just simple depth.

6. It is not his fault he has virtually no depth at RB and his main guy and Lane can not stay on the field for injuries.

7. It is not his fault Worley holds the ball forever and takes sacks when the OL actually gives decent time.

Feel free to add to this list. But some of you all need to stop wanting to fire everyone and start seeing the real issues with the team. CBJ has probably made a poor in game decision or two, but he IS the coach of your Volunteers and he is giving everything he has to make this program better. He NEEDS our support. We need to build depth and have faith. WE saw the turnaround our defense did in just 1 year. Let's trust CBJ's vision.

GBO!!

In years past, we would win games due to one signature play. Now we aren't making those plays.

Alabama 1998, Price returns a kick off 100 yards to seal the deal against Alabama.

Arkansas 1998, Billy Ratliffe causes fumble of q.b. and recovers fumble.

Air Force 2006, Marvin Mitchell tackles runner on 2 point conversion to seal the win.

Florida 2004, kicker kicks game winning 52 yarder to win game.

Florida 2001, Travis S. runs the sidelines for a huge gain and scores to seal a win against Florida.

UAB 2010, Matt SImms hits D. Moore in O/T for t.d to secure a win.

Vandy 2011, D.B. intercepts ball in O/T against Vandy to secure a win.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Lately!!!!!!!!!

Alabama 2009, Bama blocks Lincoln game winning kick.

LSU 2010, penalty causes us to lose game.

UNC 2010, penalty causes us to lose game.

Penn State 2007, Foster fumbles and PSU returns it for the win.

UGA 2013, Pig can't get to the goal line and we lose in O/T.

UGA 2014, hand off muffled and UGA recovers fumble in end zone to win.

Florida 2014, fumble by q.b. causes Florida to recover and win the game.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The only difference is that in the games that we won, we made that one play to win & in the games that we lost, we didn't make the play to win.

So far, Butch is:
2-11 against Power 5 teams (SCAR and UK)
1-7 all time on the road. (Thanks again Kentucky!)
His two biggest wins of his tenure are SCAR (great win) and Arkansas State (not so much)

It's one thing if you want to say it's too early to tell if Butch will work out. I think that's fair considering the totality of the situation. But too many here are blindly saying without equivocation that Butch is definitely the guy. There simply has been nothing to show that as of yet.

I'm in. Unfortunately I completely expected this outcome. Let's man up and prepare for Alabama. Things will get a bit easier after that. #brickbybrick

I've been brainstorming (trying to rationalize our offensive scheme) - do we ever run a two back set? Seems like it would help Worley if we had an extra guy in to block. Or what about using our long snapper at Center and having Worley line up 12 yards back. I'm telling you guys we need to get creative. This O-line is going to get someone killed.

He's also 0-9 when trailing at halftime at UT.

It is Jones' offensive system, just like the defensive system was Sunseri's.

No attempt by CBJ to adapt his offensive system to fit our personnel.

On the other hand, if he did then we'd be running the single wing or simply quick kicking on 2nd down.

There are no playmakers on this offense. O-Linemen whiff repeatedly...WRs have hands of stone...our QBs as a group might be the worst in the Big 5.

End of vent...

No reason to believe he can win big here.

He's what we hired - a guy hoping to land a gig with Purdue and Colorado.

I think Butch is a good coach, and I support him. He is a relentless recruiter. You can see that in our defense this year. After the Auburn blowout last year he commented on the difference in team speed between us and them. He went out and got speed this year. It is just amazing how bad Kiffin and Dooley decimated our program. Butch has had to start from scratch. No coach, and I mean no coach, could get us back to being a national contender these last two years. It is just painful to know it is going to take time. Realistically, we are looking at another 2-4 years.

Not looking good for Butch especially the way Florida looks. Maybe he can keep the recruits and come up with a cool slogan because literally that is all he has done.

I have no idea if Butch is the guy or not.
I am confident that if Worley (and some receivers)
had not had such a horrible game,
the score is closer and the mood here is
a little different.
There is the "coach'em up" arguement,
but from Worleys previous years here,
I see this game as his norm.
Most of his games this year, I have
been surprised he has done so well.
