Well, I think Butch did a good job turning the Vols around but you have to keep the train rolling 14-21 in the SEC and 4-7 over the last 2 seasons is probably not going to work for an extension. If there is no extension, than it becomes a lame duck situation for recruits. The good news is the buyout won't be too bad. The bad news is I don't really see any real homerun coach available or even many solid hires. Very similar situation as LSU was in - these coaches make too much and want even more.

He's doing a ****ty job of it.

Lucky me. Aside from "Gruden's probably a smokescreen", he never said a name, or a place. I think he just felt sorry for a Vol fan he's been teasing pretty hard the last few years...except for the Miracle in Athens last year...and he knows, or thinks he knows, where things are headed. I have no doubt he flew somewhere that was related to the CBJ situation.

He and I fly at different altitudes. Literally. He knows I know what he does, and who he does it for. So he gave me enough to at least convince me that change is imminent, and the AD (or someone) is swinging for the fences. He hinted that, as of last week, CBJ likely gets canned after the Bama game, and we have a new head coach before Christmas. None of which would qualify as earth-shattering or a scoop around here. I know him, and I choose to believe him.

Rest assured, if he sends me a name, Freak will get an email from me. Where it goes from there is up to the Grand Poobah of Vol Nation.

CBJ is out. Ray Charles can see that one. The questions that remain to be answered are when, and who takes over?

Both are multi-million dollar questions, and the right answer could be worth a lot more.

Go Vols.

Does it look like the last dance coming up at Tuscaloosa? I doubt CBJ or this team is making any real plan for winning. Sure, they will make an appearance because Butch's contract and their scholarship dictates that much.

Most people have come around to the belief that CBJ is just waiting on his buyout. He wants to be gone as bad as we are ready for him to be gone.

It was an atrociously bad fit when he was hired. Just have to hope the next hire is every bit as good as this one was bad. Year 5 and this is totally Butch's team, all his recruits. And it is a losing team. 0-3 SEC and heading for a place in the cellar.

Reminds me of that commercial where a guy is *****ing about owing the evil credit card companies money so he wants to get out of it "for a fraction of what he owed". No one forced him to take out the cards. No one put a gun to his head and made him use the cards. The contract clearly has the terms and rates of the agreement, but it's the credit card company that's big, rich and evil. No personal responsibility on the part of the consumer. Same with UT. They pulled the trigger on the deal with Butch. They own it. They shouldn't expect Manning or any other outside entity to bail them out. Pretty sure the money is there to do what they need to do, but if it isn't, delay all the damned construction on campus until the situation is resolved. The whole notion that someone else needs to open up their checkbook and pay my bills is garbage.

And the other part is if you are going to an unproven coach - like from MAC to SEC, then don't get stupid with the contract. Make the terms fitting for a probationary hire. You come in and perform, then you get the good stuff - higher salary, contract extension, and a nice golden parachute. Does anybody really think a lot of coaches like Butch had lines of top schools waiting for him and schools bidding up his entry fee?

The coaching salary thing is way out of hand, and there is no "proven thing" - how many were "unproven" this weekend by losses or very very near things at the hands of supposedly very inferior teams? Yet, we have half a fan base wringing their hands and chanting "pay more" for somebody - anybody.

Kelly is the best piece in the board period.
Gruden I think would be good but believe it’s a pipe dream. If our AD stalls this butch nonsense too long and we miss out on these, there are only 1-2 decent names ( neither start with a B) left worth having.
I hope they realize that after a decade of insignificance, apathy is right around the corner.
They are gambling with fan support, the future of the football program, and all the university funding derived from football money,

Currie better be a hell of a poker player

This is what great coaches say.

"When you win, nothing hurts." Joe Namath

"Motivation is simple. You eliminate those who are not motivated." Lou Holtz

“There's nothing that cleanses your soul like getting the hell kicked out of you.” Woody Hayes

"You can learn more character on the two-yard line than anywhere else in life." Paul Dietzel

"My advice to defensive players: Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in a bad humor."
Bowden Wyatt

"Always remember ..... Goliath was a 40 point favorite over David." Shug Jordan

"Football is not a contact sport - it is a collision sport. Dancing is a contact sport."

“Gentlemen, it is better to have died a small boy than to fumble this football” John Heisman[/SIZE]

Then there is this.

“The only five-star that we even concern ourselves with is a five-star heart. We want five-star hearts and five-star competitors.”- Butch Jones

"They've won the biggest championship, and that is the championship of life"-Butch Jones

“The first element that goes into winning championships is contending to win championships and our program has done that.” -Butch Jones

“You don’t have to get a physical rep to get a rep. You can get a leadership rep.”-Butch Jones

You forgot. " only 27 players have played in Gainesville" - Butch Jones

Damnit I believe you are right, and we will have just ***** footed around long enough to miss out on the perfect fracking hire!

Many of us are about done.

I think Kelly is a PAC-12/West Coast guy if he decides to get back into college. I don't see him wanting to do the "Big Orange Caravan" or radio call in shows from Calhoun's or Dead End BBQ...he just doesn't fit in East Tennessee...similar to Charlie Strong was a bad fit at Texas.
