I get that argument too, but if we keep performing like we are now, we are most likely to have several decommits before December. We might not even make a dang bowl game. It's a realistic possibility that we lose to South Carolina, Vandy, and even Kentucky. This team looks that bad and appears to be getting worse. He's lost the locker room. If they pull the trigger now and hire a big name coach before the signing period they may have a chance to salvage this class.

I'm not sure a big name coach wants to sign on in the middle of the season. Chip Kelly nor Les Miles want to take over in the middle of train wreck. They'll want to let it play out and take over in December or January

I'd be surprised if AD Currie fires Butch now, but hey...I've seen stranger things...I just expect Butch to finish out the season...whatever...

GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Money shouldn’t be an issue. You invest in your product to get the best return. 9.2 million isn’t the problem. I fear another butch like coach because we won’t pay actual coaches.

A real fan! I salute you!

NO YOU SIR ARE a TENNESSEE VOL!!!!! We dont take *s* whippings like we got yesterday and we wont settle for what we are seeing on gamedays! Keep praying for a coaching change we need one desperately.

Some of the reality of this is, if your a potential recruit, what is the incentive to go to a SEC school with a record like this? After 13 years of Mediocrity, as 1 poster put it. The Team was not inspired, the coaching staff failed to motivate the players. Maybe time for a change on that alone. The Players and the Leaders of the team own a lot of this too. I'd sure hate to be a player on campus Monday and be seen with my head held up.

TL:DR We need to stop trying to get a bargain coach and shell out the money for a proven one.

I was skeptical of hiring Butch when we did because he was the only coach I saw Dooley clearly out coach. I figured everyone has an off-day and was willing to give Butch the benefit of the doubt. I appreciate what Butch did to retool the team, but its apparent he is not a gameday coach.

That all said, I don't think it makes sense to spend the millions on a buyout unless we can get a top tier coach. I think we need to send out feelers and make sure we have legitimate interest from a top tier coach (like Kelly, Stoops, whoever). If we can't generate the interest we need, and we may not be able to at this point, I think its better to just let Butch run out his contract (I realize that would kill recruiting, I still think it would be worth it and a top tier coach could attract the recruits he needs when he gets here), and use that 6-9 million buyout to attract a top tier coach who isn't necessarily in love with Tennessee.

I fully expect a statement released from Currie proclaiming undying support for Butch with talks of an extension in the works to solidify his commitment to Jones.

It's the Tennessee way.

Maybe we should stop giving mediocre coaches huge buyouts but give them high base salaries. Has anyone been doing this? That way you can swap these mid-major coaches quickly when they don't work out. I would be ok with scraping bottom of the barrel coaches in times where no good coaches are actually available if we could fire them later.

1. We can get ahead of other big name programs that might have a vacancy later in the season in search of a new head coach.

2. There are a couple of big names out there like Chip Kelly and Bob Stoops that are currently without a job that we could lock up.

3. Naming a new head coach could help salvage or even enhance the 2018 recruiting class. Thus making us more competitive next year.

4. With the recruiting calendar moving up 2 months its more important than ever now to have a new head coach named before December so that you can save the recruiting class.

I can't think of a reason why the administration would drag this on any further. We know Butch Jones is not the guy. We know he'll be fired. If we wait until the end of the season, we would only be delaying the inevitable while putting ourselves in a worse position for 2018. The best thing for us if we want to be good next year is to have a new head coach named ASAP so he can save this recruiting class and get to work for 2018.

Please UT administration FIRE BUTCH JONES NOW!!!

Please go back on your meds

If it had not been for our center trying to put that football up his buttocks, I wouldn't of enjoy any of the game.

Maaaan, I hope not. I really do.

Geez.. can you imagine the record for the next 2 years..

No reason not to do it today. No chance we win less games with an interim coach. No chance recruiting is hurt cause the faster a change is made the quicker the new coach can start recruiting players for his system. The current commits all know Butch won't be here next year anyways. They will sell more tickets if there is an interim. Less people will go to the games if Butch is still the coach. However, they will go to support the players under an interim.
