The Official Braves Thread Of Volnation

Crazy stat I just heard on ESPN... The Braves have always seemed to use a patchwork bullpen. If you take all the closers the Braves have used during Bobby Cox's 2nd stint as manager began and after they left the Braves they have combined for only 41 total career saves.

That's unbelievable when you consider all the guys who have closed for the Braves (Pena, Berenger, Mercker, Wohlers, Reardon, McMichael, Rocker, Stanton, Smoltz, Farnsworth, Karsay, Clontz, Lightenberg etc.).

It also goes to show that there may be some weight to the notion that what counts is your starting pitching, your bullpen is worthless if you've given up 10 runs by the 7th inning.

Well the Braves start a series with the Mets this weekend. I was j/w what some of yalls thoughts were about this series. Who will take it? Can the Braves make another sweep? I say the Mets take this series.

Time to get everyone healthy and make a run. This may be the year that the division titles come to an end.

Braves thread? Three words: LET'S GO METS! I am tired of having an inferior complex every time we play the Braves. Kudos on the streak of division titles. I would rather win the division with the Braves playing well, rather than struggling with injuries and with Mazzone being gone, but I'll take it anyway we can win it. That said, they are still the Braves, it is early, and the Braves can never be counted out.

I thought last week that the Mets, psychologically, needed to beat the Braves, and the Braves took 2 of 3. I think the same thing about this weekend.

Braves lost a heart breaker to Glavine tonight 1-0 on a on HR. OUCH!
That makes them about 6 games or 7 behind the Mets. Even Maddux is 5-0 this year. Braves bats need to get hot and the pitching better overall. April is not a good month for them. They do better in warmer weather - May-July. We're going to Philly to see them Labor Day weekend. Hope the Braves are in first place by June.

The Braves have yet to put it together. They spent the first two weeks knocking the cover off the ball, but couldn't pitch to save their lives. Now the pitching has come around and the bats have gone in the tank. Hopefully, Chipper, Giles and Renteria can stay healthy and get back in the groove.

I remember when the Mets lost to Glavine 1-0 to fall behind 3 games to 0 in 1999. It has been an extremely impressive run guys, but they can't build around Chipper forever, and these are the kinds of games the Braves used to get from NY. :clapping: "Let's Go Mets!"

Met-fan can hope . . . but I wouldn't start shoveling dirt on the Braves just yet.

We have the psychological edge on the Mets.Just watch.

No joke. I like to say that the National League could really screw the Mets by having every team wear Braves uniforms when the play the Mets.

that davies guy was the first braves pitcher to 2 wins

and franceour was 4-5 with a homerun and a diving catch to end the game... they needed him to get outta his slump

Fox has purchased Turner South and has replaced Skip, Joe, Chip and Don with Bob Rathbun and Jeff Torborg.

JEFF TORBORG IS THE MOST BORING, ANNOYING COLOR ANALYST IN THE HISTORY OF TELEVISED BASEBALL. He just talks and talks and talks and it's clear that he has no interest in whether the Braves win or not.

I cannot get TS in Lex. Can't believe what TBS has done to me.

I miss the good ole days when Ted owned everything and the Braves played 162 times a year on TBS/Sportsouth.

You and me both. I also miss seeing him "meditate" by the first base line with Hanoi Jane.

What was even crazier were the nights that Ted and Jane would be sitting there in the owner's box with Jimmy Carter. Talk about a motley crew of individuals.

I'll never forget sitting in Fulton County Stadium prior to game 6 of the World Series thinking "I can see Ted Turner, Jane Fonda and President Carter and the Braves might when the World Series tonight". For a fleeting moment I was convinced the apocalypse was upon us. :D
