The Official Boston Red Sox Thread

Well, I posted that a little too drunk last night. I think the Sox can come back, but it's going to be an uphill road. 71 games left (double check me on that). Only 3.5 out of the Wild Card. Same old story... if we be resiliant enough to hang around until we get healthy, we have a legitimate shot. Every game is important from here on out... especially this big 10 game West Coast roadtrip coming up.

IMO the 10 game West Coast trip will be what puts the nail in the coffin so to speak.

That could very well be true. I just keep hoping the late inning win sparked the Sox. We have Lester going tomorrow for the opportunity at a split. The news concerning V-Mart, Pedroia and Beckett among others on the DL continues to be good. One day at a time.

*Clay Buchholz stat line from Friday night with Pawtucket: 3.2 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, threw 60 pitches.

1 start in Triple A was enough for Buchholz, he will get the start Wed in Oakland.

*Josh Becketts stat line from Saturday night with Pawtucket: 4 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs, 81 pitches.

He will join up with the club & sit down with Francona, Farrell, & Esptien to decide a plan on what to do next.

* Michael Bowden has been called up from Triple A Pawtucket, it seems as Gustavo Molina will be the odd man out.

Outfielder Jeremy Hermida will head to Pawtucket tomorrow and spend two games with the club, one as a designated hitter, and the other in the outfield. Francona thinks that Hermida will be ready at some point during the team's West-coast trip.

"The hope is, if he’s OK, he’ll meet us out in Seattle," Francona said. "I don’t see any reason that won’t happen."

Two quick updates for you:

* Josh Beckett will pitch Friday in Seattle with Jon Lester and Daisuke Matsuzaka getting pushed back a day. It seems like Tim Wakefield's final start (for now) will be Tuesday.

* Victor Martinez played catch before the game and said his left thumb still felt sore. But he was able to squeeze the glove a little. Terry Francona called it a baby step but still a significant one.

A baby step for a baby, he needs to be out there.

Our rotation is now set to the way it was suppose to be at the beginning of the season:

Beckett
Lester
Dice-K
Lackey
Buchholz

Now if we can only start getting our postion players back & our lineup in order.

You guys think you will be real busy come trade deadline time?

Not really, as always Theo will look to upgrade the roster somehow but with all the injuries we have had I think Theo is content on just waiting all this out to get everyone back & see what the team will do. If anything I think Theo will look to upgrade the bullpen some, we have been either real good or very bad there so far this year. We should be getting Ellsbury back here soon & he's only played in I think 6 games so far this season. Martinez is about a week away from coming back & Pedrioa is about 2 weeks away. We also have Lowrie & Hermida in Triple A right now making rehab starts & they'll be a part of the bench once their ready. The team you see right now will be about 85% different in 2 weeks.

Despite losing 3/4 to the Rangers, it looks like there are a lot of positives with players about to return from the DL. It would have been nice to pick up a game on the Rays today, though.

Agreed.

Watching the Marlins and Rockies play, the commentators said that they are hearing rumors that Leo Nunez (rp) and Cody Ross (of) may head to Boston...interesting.

Red Sox option Daniel Nava back to Pawtucket & call up OF Jeremy Hermida, I'd expect him to be in the lineup tonight in Seattle. Were starting to get the everyday players back, hopefully Ellsbury, V-Mart, & Pedey are right close.

Globe said today that V-Mart could be back catching for Angels series. Great outing for Lackey last night. If Beckett looks good tonight, I will feel even more confident about the prospect of catching the Rays. Then again, I won't be surprised to see some rust like we did when Buchholz came back. I don't care how we get them, let's just win these games we are supposed to.

Beckett went 5 2/3s inning last night, looked pretty good except for that 26 pitch 1st inning. V-Mart is suppose to be back for the Angels series & Pedrioa is about a week & a half away. Keep this thing within 5 games of the Rays & we still have hope.

Red Sox swept the Angels today to finish the West Coast trip at 6-4. Beckett had a very solid outing today & it's looking like our starting rotation has finally came together, were starting to string together quality starts every night. V-Mart came back & gave our offense a boost of energy. Were about 1-2 weeks away from getting Ellsbury & Pedrioa back. We should come back to Fenway down 5 games in the WC. Just keep us close until we can get our other two bullets back & we will be loaded to make a run.

Got to stay within striking distance until we get healthy, it could easily get away from us before we ever have a chance . That would be very frustrating to see because I believe we are just as good as any team if healthy.

I agree, my mark has been 5 games. As long as we stay within 5 I think we have a chance.

& IMO were the best team in baseball when fully healthy. Just 2 weeks ago we were within half a game of the division lead without having Beckett, Ellsbury, Cameron ( for almost a month ), V-Mart, & Pedrioa.

The Boston Red Sox made a couple moves today:

* The Red Sox have obtained catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia from Texas for 1B Chris McGuiness, RHP Roman Mendez, a player to be named later and cash considerations.

The 6-foot-4, switch-hitting Saltalamacchia was once a heralded prospect who has fallen on hard times. He has played in only two games for Texas this season and was hitting .244/.326/.445 for Triple-A Oklahoma City with 11 home runs.

One of the reasons Saltalamacchia is in the minors is that he has had trouble throwing the ball back to the pitcher. He is only 25, however, and could still emerge as at least a backup if not a starter should be overcome his issues.

* The Red Sox announced they have traded reliever Ramon Ramirez to San Francisco, The player the Red Sox obtained was RHP Daniel Turpen. He was 5 -5, 4.09 with AA Richmond is and is former 8th round pick in 2007. He's 23.

Also, reliever Dustin Richardson was called up from Triple-A Pawtucket

* Jeremy Hermida was designated for assignment today, OF Ryan Kalish was called up to take his spot in the lineup.

David Ortiz with a clutch hit in the 9th to beat the Tigers 5-4. Hopefully this will give them the spark they need to make a run.
