Were you among the people screaming "NEGAVOL" on here when those of us who pointed out the fact that App State took us to overtime, and we needed a terrible FG on their part to even get a chance to win the game, was not a good sigh?
Were you screaming "NEGAVOL" after some of us pointed out that without the 5 turnovers on VA Tech's part, that we would not have looked nearly as impressive schematically?
Were you screaming "NEGAVOL" when people pointed out the fact that we couldn't seem to put away an inferior Ohio team, and that it didn't bode well for our offense when we played better competition?
This, is better competition.
Oh, I know what you are going to say, what about Florida, what about Georgia.
There was a time when TN expected to handily beat a Florida team, at home, with a second string QB, or a Georgia team with a first year head coach and a freshman QB, without needing heroic efforts, and a Hail Mary with zero time on the clock.
Our entire scheme this year has been to hope to play just well enough, and for our opponent to make more mistakes than us, and it failed when we encountered real competition.
You can trot out the W/L ratio at the end of the year when you are pumping yourself up after we beat a mediocre team in a mediocre bowl, but until then, whether you believe it or not, how you win and how you lose games matters, from ticket sales, to ranking, to recruiting.
