We have 3.5 seasons of Mahoney coached oline film to study. He hasn't been able to field an SEC caliber starting oline yet, what makes you think he will be able to next year?

Agreed, but you did hear them say that they were in a 4-2 today instead of a 4-3 because we were so thin at LB, right? We basically ran a nickel all day, which is prolly why Kiff continued to pound on us...we were simply spent.

Plenty of teams run a 4-2-5 as their base defense without letting teams get 400 yards on the ground and break 25 year old records.

And they have been getting gashed all season in the run game with the exception of FL so the injuries narrative doesn't hold water either.

Butch's recruiting peaked already and his talent is still lacking.

And he isnt the best in game coach. Fulmer wasnt a great x and o coach but he was better than Jones.

Weak SEC East. This is Jones ceiling. Enjoy it as next year Vols will fall back. This was the year......

I hate it as bad as anyone, but I agree. The one big seller for Butch was his top knotch recruiting. But to be honest, each class keeps getting less impressive little by little. And this years class is horrible by SEC standards! It almost looks like our Vols are headed back down the SEC ladder, when you really take time to look at recruiting and how poorly this staff looks as far game prepration and in game playcalling! I sure hope im wrong!

If we have the same staff that we have this year, and we attempt to run the same scheme, then we'll all look back at losing to Bama by 39, beating Georgia on a Hail Mary, and beating Florida with a bacup QB from Purdue, and still finishing 11-2 in a decent bowl as awesome compared to what is possible when our recruiting classes start to slide.

You can root for mediocrity all you want, you can pull the "true fan" garbage all you want, but I've been watching the Vols long enough to realize that the program is bigger than the coach. CBJ has made bad coaching hires, and I'll be critical of him for it until he is gone.

Great head coaches hire good assistants, and get rid of those who can't get the job done. Period.

Feel free to be loyal to Butch Jones when he is at a MAC school in a few years, with Debord and Mahoney on staff with him. I'll still be here watching and cheering on UT.

In another system he might have gotten a better shake. I'm given to understand the kid isn't completely incompetent.

Wonder who Butch is going to throw under the bus at the end of the season. Its seems to me that he is the common denominator in all our suckitude.

Hopefully the O-line Coach. Totally obvious to me, but I have never been a fan of this scheme. Slow developing, but I think a good offensive line would help our rhythm offense.

Jones isn't going anywhere unless the wheels come off next year.

UT probably can't afford to release him then either, even if the team were to tank the season. Considering his consistent improvements every year, they'll give him a plus 1 to see if improvements are made.

That may be true. I have high hopes for JG as well. My point was Dobbs did not look any worse throwing the ball today than Dormandy. The Bama defense and the TN O-Line injuries had a big reason for the poor passing; not individual QBs or the OC.

Mahoney is garbage and we all knew it, but we all hoped DeBord could fix it. Problem is, we haven't recruited well enough at OT to deal with any injuries. You add to that the fact our OL isn't being coached up and you have a disaster in your hands. I'm sorry, but why would you put Tatum out there? What's that kid weigh, 270? I'd put Austin Sanders in before I put a true freshman in that lacks about 50 pounds.

Butch asked for this. He refused to let someone take over the offense and we are paying for it. We don't have a QB coach, it's showing. Our OL coach sucks, it's showing. We don't utilize talent properly, aka Evan Berry, Byrd, JJ, and Kamara, it's showing. Offense is just a complete disaster right now, especially the OL.

In terms of defense, this is why so many people won't get on the Jumper and Berry train. Guys, I love all of you as VOLS fans, but some of you have the madden effect where you get so excited you just want to throw players out there because they were higher rated recruits or because they have a specific name on their back. Jumper and Berry are special teams players and locker room role models. You love them for their effort, but you don't play them against Bama, etc because they will get you routed. Our LB play is killing us. Those QB runs are mostly due to bad LB play. Bama has great OL players so they know how to angle DL out of plays, which leaves LBs and S having to make the play. Galuden 1 on 1 can make plays, but Berry and Jumper don't have enough speed or they take bad angles. Multiple TDs today came because our LBs were out of position. It's just mental errors by players who shouldn't be on the field. I love my boys, but it's just the harsh reality.
