The Official #6 Tennessee @ #7 LSU Series Thread (Fri. April 25 7:30PM EDT SECNET+) (Sat. April 26 8PM EDT ESPNU) (Sun. April 27 3PM EDT SEC NETWORK)

I missed most of the game, too tired last night. Let's remember, because Tony let's his players be themselves, plus they won the Championship, we have a target on our back. That's why when a team beats us, they "charge the dugout"(??) and act like they've won Omaha.

Apparently, Curley had many errors? IMO, Tony will fix this. Somebody above said Tony was like "Deacon" Barnes in that he has favorites--I'm trying to think of the favorites that Barnes played that shouldn't have been in the game? These guys still want to win games.
Exactly. Coaches are doing what it takes to win games. We as fans sometimes agree, sometimes disagree. The only thing that matters in knowing whether it will work is to let it play out and see the result.

As an example, @TigerMan had a post in the 9th about a pinch-hit decision made by LSU’s coach. He didn’t like it. It worked out for LSU. I am sure Tigerman liked it a whole lot better after the fact.

That is sports. They are wonderful and they are cruel. It is why we should enjoy these, our best days, every day.

Wonder what Tony V does with him today. Just not sure if you can bench or move him after last night without the possibility of really getting into his head. I think he puts him right back out there today. Just flip the switch and get after it again today.
TV answered this question last night. Would be shocked if he's out there starting today at 3rd.

On trying to instill confidence in Curley defensively while not knowing what they’re getting from him right now

“Now we need to win. I mean, we needed to win tonight, too, but we’re getting towards the stretch part of the season, obviously getting to May, so we just need to find a way to put nine guys out there that are going to help us win.”

TV says he will "find a way to put nine guys out there that are going to help us win."

Did Curley help them win last night with batting or fielding? No, he did not.

Is there something mechanical going on with Curley? (I know you've already discussed it, but pretend like I just walked into the room). I just don't understand the errors he's making.
I read an article last night about how much he had "bulked up" in the off season. I don't know what that means exactly (like how much weight did he gain; muscle mass, etc), but those things can definitely affect mechanics. Seems late in the season to me still adjusting to it tho.

The extra steps, the over throws, just seems like something happened to his arm, shoulder, back, something, and it changed what he is able to do. I really like him, I hope he gets it figured out soon.

That was me who mentioned Deacon Barnes. There are and have been certain players he refused to sit despite poor play but others he'd yank after one ill-timed and missed shot. As one who watches most every game, it is quite obvious.

Personally, I don't think want to win games should be the only factor. I think performance should be considered also.

Why is Bargo not playing 3rd???

Unfortunately after that brutal loss last night, I’m thinking that the Vols will get swept at LSU. They have ceded all the momentum to LSU - Alex Box stadium will be loud and nasty tonight.

Hope Im wrong.
If we get swept, forget hosting a super and frankly it’ll become questionable for us to host anything at all. We still have to go to Arky at the end of the year. The losses could snowball on us down the stretch.

Ugh. 4 hours of sleep and I've gotta go tee it up. It won't be pretty..(boo-hoo, I know)

I was pissed like everyone else but it's just 1 game. We've got the best coach in college ball and he's got the pieces to win it all again imo. Although I'm starting to wonder if AJ being one of those pieces is just wishful thinking.

It’s not like Curley was great at SS last year , I know he bounced at least 20-25 throws to first last year that Burke scooped for him , I think we’ll eventually see Curley at second and Kilen at SS with Bargo at third , after starting SEC play 9-1 we’re 3-6 in our last 9 and haven’t really done anything good with the exception of Doyle and a few others , I predicted 18-12 but this morning I’m a bit skeptical if we can reach 18 wins , I’m hoping we can get it turned around

I don't think many are giving him unnecessary criticism. He should sit until he gets the yips figured out. He's not hitting well and is definitely not fielding well. Those are facts. Hate it for him but there's no I in team. That works both ways.
I think CTV should consider making a defensive substitution for him late in games until he gets over his issues or his bat is just so hot you can't afford to take an AB away from him.

Curley has been moved all around the infield which has really hurt his fielding - 3rd to short to 2nd to 3rd.
This is what has me scratching my head at times, but I don’t make the big bucks on those decisions. It’s like musical chairs this late in the season out there though, which I don’t think is good.

The errors have been a problem this season thus far. You will get no argument from me. That said, He’s been asked to play every position this year. I’ve called, as a fan, to settle in somewhere. Not up to me, obviously.

Let’s not make light of the pressure tonight. I’m not making excuses for anyone, but it was a tight game, both ranked high and we were on the road. Not the end of the world, just a baseball game.
He's been asked to play multiple positions because they are trying to find a spot where he can play without being a defensive liability.

When you are trying to hide a defensive liability, the ball seems to follow said liability around. That's baseball. Only way to alleviate that is DH said liability or improve liability fielding.

Yeah and we no hit and run ruled A&M and then they took that personally lol. Let’s just see what happens. Have faith.

I think last years team was a lot better offensively than this team too , they could play through some errors and still find a way to win , I also think last years veteran lineup played with a ton more energy , maybe these mid season lumps will force our guys to get better

He's afraid to let it go because he's not confident in where it's going.

I don’t understand why Curley wasn’t at 2B anyway. When he tried that last week, it worked. So why mess with it? Bargo was awesome at 3B. It was like they found a solution, then said, “nah, let’s scrap that solution and go back to the thing that didn’t work.” Then, shockingly, it blew up in their face.

Put Curley at 2B, Kilen at SS, Bargo at 3B, and roll with it. This seems obvious…and was obvious before last night.

LSU had to hit the road after winning it all last year. . So wouldnt be unprecedented.

You have to think if Kilen was at 100% that would be the move and try to get another bat in the lineup , our offense is struggling to score runs too
