Basketball is a fickle sport Houston could go out and miss everything vs Duke you never know they looked good today. I remember when Bama looked unbeatable hitting record number 25 3s then they missed everything vs Duke and got blown out.I'm not convinced Houston was just a flat out better team. Tenn just decided to wet the bed like few teams do.
Pretty much spot onSometimes, you have a matchup problem. They have a guy that can guard ZZ. They can make life difficult for Lanier. Tennessee doesn't score in the post and their bigs can't play as a "stretch 4", although that''s what Igor is supposed to do.
Aren't many options to turn to.
In a lot of ways, Igor not doing what Igor is on the roster to do was a lot of the problem.
Exactly correct. Hate it but that was a bad matchup for UT. 3 - 6’8” players that have 7’ wingspans and shoot over 40% from the 3 point line. ZZ couldn't drive today with their length and that really hurt the offense. He was no threat to score and couldn’t kick out for a three as they all collapsed. When it counted, Gainey was the only threat to score.Houston did to us what we did to Kentucky. They shot lights out and we couldn't break 35 percent.
Winning in March Madness is so hard, because of your first point. Matchups are everything.Sometimes, you have a matchup problem. They have a guy that can guard ZZ. Unpopular opinion (maybe): Barnes and his staff got the absolute most out of the squad this year.
Lanier ended up being a little too streaky for our #1 option and Estrella getting hurt really hurt us down low. Igor really fell off the last month or so of the season
Elite 8 with this group is something that should be celebrated, IMO.
