Igor is the worst near-basket finisher on the team. For Barnes to make that call was certainly a choice smhIgor is more accurate from 30 feet than he is from 3 feet. We had 5 three point shooters on the floor and didn't take the three. I agree he often can not finish near the basket. In fact, our bigs miss a lot of layups and dunks.
The difference this year is Duke. There's really not much of a difference between being a high number two seed and low 1 seed
Last year only one number 1 seed make it to the elite 8, right?
Just like Purdue last year. The difference this year is Duke.
I think they are the only team that we can’t play with.
That’s why we want to be a one seed because,if not, you know the committee will put us in Dukes region.
We were not favored to win @Auburn, so it was technically five times. I know vegas had us favored at home against Florida but I would consider that result to be a bit of an upset with ZZ and Igor not playing. Also, it is somewhat of a misleading stat. If your team is ranked as highly as we have been all year, just about any loss you take will be an upset and there's not many opportunities to upset another team. Another, more positive, way to look at it is going game by game Vegas must have expected Tennessee to go 30-1 this season. You know. I just realized that Tennessee has been upset 6 times this year and has upset nobody. That makes me sad.
Upset in my book is based on the line, not your ranking...but I get your point. We were not favored to win @Auburn, so it was technically five times. It can’t be an SEC record. ESPN noted on Monday that Auburn’s 10 wins against AP-ranked opponents this year made them the 3rd team in NCAA history to do so prior to a team’s conference tournament (the others being 1992-93 Indiana (11-2) and 2002-03 Kentucky (11-1)).we have 9 wins against ranked opponents. I thought I heard that was either an SEC or Tennessee record for the regular season
I'm thinking we'll be in the Midwest opposite Houston if we remain a #2 seed. Auburn will already be in the South, and Florida, should they get the last #1 seed, will be in the West. That leaves the East and Midwest for the next SEC team, and the Midwest Regional location (Indianapolis) is closer than the East location (Newark). The difference this year is Duke.

Brakefield was unstoppable. Only reason they won. Not sure what you think they were supposed to do against him.
They have overachieved, but I can’t find this thin roster everyone keeps blaming.I’m very happy with where this team stands even after the loss. I think they have over achieved based on the roster. It’s very limited offensively and lacking depth. There’s really no big that you can run offense for, except the lob to Okpara and that has been scouted well since the start of SEC play. Estrellas injury was a huge loss. Milicic’s inconsistence has been a problem. But here we are in solid shape for a 2! Are you kidding? I think this is one of Barnes best coaching jobs at TN. Dead serious.
That bodes well for the NCAAT. Both of those teams were #1 seeds but faltered in the Elite Eight. It can’t be an SEC record. I think maybe, maybe if we would play Florida or Auburn and win it would help. That’s the only scenario where I could imagine it helping. However, not worth a 1 seed imo to play 2-3 games like that just for the 1 seed. Why play a couple games that would be tougher than the 1st 2 rounds of the tournament just for the possibility of moving up a seed? I just don’t think it’s worth it and I wish they’d scrap the stupid thing. It will be interesting to see how we're treated if we exit the SECT early. I'd wager we'd be penalized for that. Winning it? Not so much. One thing is certain. We'd better show up and take care of business vs SCjr. Know UT will be UT, but they simply cannot afford to drop that game.
You know. I just realized that Tennessee has been upset 6 times this year and has upset nobody. That makes me sad.
Of course, a bubble team or a team that isn’t good can get in if they play well or win the conference tournament. But for seeding purposes, the committee doesn’t really care past Friday. History has proven that these last few years.I am amazed at how many really believe the conference championships don't impact ultimately who gets into the tourney - they do! The winners are in! That winner may push another team out.
I do agree that those who make the decisions do go into the selection with pre-conceived rankings - but if Tennessee were to win the tournament beating Auburn, Florida and Alabama in the process - they had better be a one seed! In fact, I would say that about any of those four teams.
Sorry, I posted in the heat of the moment as many others have on here after this game. Just so tired of thinking it is out of the realm of possibility that anybody on any given night could have came up the same as we did against Ole Miss. Ole Miss played out their keisters and won a hard fought battle. All these trashing the players have no idea how many still are weak from the flu. I noticed Mashack coughing his head off during one time out. It is what it is. We lost. Watch film and learn. I believe we have a coach that knows how to do that, contrary to what some believe.Who? Barn has lost to 3 ranked teams, ranked at the time of playing and currently.
I enjoy it but see the reality of the team as wellYet the same thing was said. Literally. We lost our last 2 games before the NCAAT, and there was doom and gloom. I don’t understand why people don’t enjoy seasons like this. Seasons like this will not last. We will have tough times, and I can’t imagine what people will think. Have to enjoy them while they are here.
