The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

Funny, but I'm 100% certain true story I heard last night from a coworker who is a former SEAL. Yes, alcohol was involved...

Back in the early 00's, him and another SEAL fly into one of the 'Stans as an advance team to train local tribal chiefs in basic I&W (Intel and Warning). Strictly off the RADAR, and in civilian attire and ID's. They fly all over the ME before they finally land in-country, coming in on a Russian civilian twin-engine plane (side note: he told me "Never fly on a plane the Russian military has retired. It was two pilots, us, and like twenty crates of chickens. Both pilots were drunk, the co-pilot put out two fires in the cockpit during our 40 minute flight, and we were covered in chicken feathers and chicken s**t when we landed".)

As they are getting off the plane, a mortar attack is hitting the airport. He looks at his teammate and says "We're under mortar attack, and all I have is a pocketknife. We are seriously screwed here." They make it to the terminal, where they are greeted by their guide, who as it turns out is British SAS. Their "alphabet agency" rep is nowhere to be found. They tell him they have no weapons at all, and in 45 minutes, they have grenades, guns, ammo, and an escort of half a dozen locals who are armed to the teeth, and in no mood for foolishness. Said it was the safest he ever felt on a foreign op.

Their US rep finds them two weeks later, after they are 100 miles to the north, working with the SAS, and on their 4th or 5th village. He flies in on a CH-46 with an escort of a dozen or so Army SF guys and two Apache's, and says "You guys were supposed to wait for me at the airport."

They put him back on the Chinook, hogtied, and tell the Army pilots to drop him off at the airport...from 1500 feet.

I'm sure they didn't, and the two SEALS were extracted (go figure) about 10 days later, but we have no idea what goes on, every day, in a thousand untold and unknown battles and wars all over the globe.

Good stuff.

I just picked myself up A Smith &Wesson M&P Shield 9mm. Don't have my CC yet but thats the plan for it
I'm picking up a Walther PPS tomorrow, for the same reason. I was looking at the shield and canik tp9sc. But my local gun shop made me an offer I couldn't refuse on the Walther.

Four months in on the ATF Form 4 for the 6933. "Pending".

Just hit me that I could have another child in the time it takes to get a Form 4 approved.

🤫 course ya did. 😂
Honestly I did. It's a long story but @grandvol encouraged me to purchase a new barrel for an existing AR and because of my ignorance of the law I thought it would be cool to shorten that sucker. Grand quickly informed me I was breakin' da law. So I quickly called the company and asked them if they could swap the barrel before it shipped they said the upper had been test fired and I had to take the short barrel but they would change out the upper to a legal barrel. So I had this barrel sitti g arou d and accordingto grand that even possession of the barrel was a violation. So I learned how to assemble those suckers and put together a pistol. Grand created this monster as I've assembled several in all different calibers.

If you get your stamp you can have an unlimited number of uppers for that lower so I'd advise anyone to get that stamp!

Don't want to change the buffer tube and stock to a pistol backend I presume?

Long story, but you asked and I've got time on my hands, so.....

Back in 2009, I decided I wanted an AR. Up until then, I had been carrying a Mini-14 for about 6 years (at that time our SO did not issue patrol rifles), but having changed careers to a job that left me with considerably more disposable income, I decided to get an AR. At the recommendation of a friend who ran a local pawn shop, I ordered a Colt 6721 (16" HBAR). Got the gun; couple of spare mags; 200 rounds of ammo; and all is good.

Fast forward to 2012-ish. I'm bs'ing with a co-worker who is a retired GSP Trooper / SWAT member, and the talk turns to guns, and my AR. He tells me I'm not getting the full potential out of that rifle; I need an optic, trigger, etc, etc. Around the same time, if memory serves, I start chatting with Grand Vol on VN (looks like we both got bit by the same Oklahoma Cobra, huh?...lol). Next thing you know, I have an Aimpoint PRO, Magpul BUS, Geisselle SSA, Hogue grip, B5 stock, Magpul sling, and Scout light. I quit there, because I figured I had a good fighting rifle, and didn't want any "crap" on a working gun.

Not long after that, the ammo bug bit me, and I started researching for the best HD / duty round for an AR. Since I had a 1/9 barrel, I was limited to 70 grains or less (yes, I shot different weights to see where my upper limit was), so I ended up with the Federal 62 grain SBCT / TBBC and IMI 69 grain SMK's. The 62 TBBC is a very, very good barrier-blind round, but I can only get about 2 MOA out of it. The 69 SMK is a tack driver, but not barrier-blind. So I stocked both.

Some time after that (this is where things start to get really fuzzy, I start thinking about gun grabbers and only having one rifle, so I decide I need two. I get another 6721, so that i have redundancy as far as swapping parts if need be. That gun sits in a case in my closet for a month or so, until I get bored and decide to set it up as a longer range option. So it's gets an e-SSA, Raptor CH, B5, Hogue grip, and a Nikon 3-9x40 P-223 scope. I dial it in on the 69 SMK's out to 200 yards, and I'm within 2 inches of POA with the BDC reticle at that range off of a bench. Once again, life is good.

Somewhere in there I bought a spare Colt BCG when I lost a cotter pin in the garage and realized that was a great way to render a Colt useless. I also bought cotter pins.

Still with me? Go get a beer, we're almost done here...so about a year ago I started thinking about an SBR / AR pistol. From running the AS drills we do quarterly, I knew it was a chore working hallways and clearing rooms with that 6721. Since I'm also wearing armor, and carrying my "go bag" with six spare 30-round mags, two IFAK kits, a spare light, and a backup handgun, I thought back to my days of running rooms behind a sweet little MP5N, and found myself pining for something lighter, shorter, and faster.

I waffled, seriously, between the Colt 6933 and the Saint Victor. Both had their upsides. In the end, I stuck with Colt, since it cuts down on "spare parts" I need to keep on hand, and offers me some flexibility in interchangeability if the need arises. Right now it's in NFA jail about half an hour north of me, but the FFL allows conjugal visits, so it is already equipped with an optic, trigger, stock, sling, CH, and light. After some research on this one, the default load will be the TAP 75 SBR. The 6933 has a 1/7 barrel.

Over the years this thread, and especially GV, have been an invaluable source of insight, info, and advice. Yes, there have been a few times when I zigged and probably should have zagged, but to each their own, and I always learn more here than I leave here, so this is an enjoyable spot for me to visit.

The "Ammo Chronicles" are almost as long, and (of course) involve GV, so let's just say "somewhere around
8000 rounds", and leave that one for another day.....

Keep safe out there.

You could put a pistol tube and a brace on that sucker, temporarily and take her home until the stamp shows up.

Hmmmm….isn't it "Once an SBR, forever an SBR?"

Asking for a friend, of course.
Nope. It's not an SBR until you have your stamp. It's not an SBR until it's under 16" on the business end and has a real stock on it. Put the pistol back end on it and it's not an SBR it's a pistol. Get your stamp and simply put your buffer tube and stock back on it. That's the way I did mine and my FFL said it was perfectly legal.

Just got me and my wife's new guns. Wanted to share, It's not everyone's cup of tea but we like them.

Mine is a Uberti 1858 New Army Conversion. It's a .45 LC, you can also get the black powder Cylinder for it.
Since I already have a few black powder guns I'll probably stay away from getting one.

My wife seen this and had to have it for no other reason then how it looks.
It does shoot good though.
Its a Traditions Frontier 1873 Single Action Revolver Liberty Model, It also fires .45LC
