The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

Aren't those the dangerous assault weapons liberals were screeching about gangs getting their hands on?

Try the Gunfighter...

It's life changing.

You have been "life changing"...as in I seem to stay broke anytime I get into a conversation with you about upgrades. But if you insist...I'll get the Gunfighter and try it out.

No need to involve Upper Management...I have a slush fund.

Do you prefer the gunfighter on all ARs? What do you feel it has over the Raptor ambis?

I do, but I don't think it really has any advantages over the Raptor personally other than the Raptor being a little easier on using the palm to "blade" a malf drill. I just don't prefer many ambi charging handles myself. The Mod 3 (the old ones at least, I think the Mod 3 is actually what I have) stuck out far enough one could do a reloading drill similar to the one folks would for an AK minus replacing the mag: (rotate weapon with ejection port facing down, rack charging handle with support hand, continue firing) if they were doing offhand shooting.

It's more or less a chocolate or vanilla ice cream kind of decision for the charging handles. You like both flavors, but prefer one over the other. I personally would just use anything over than a standard one.

Cool, thanks. I have never used the gunfighter so I was curious but yeah, literally anything is better than the stock CH.

A lot of the issued M1 Garands for the Korean War were rebuilt WW2 rifles. So technically any rifle built before the end of the war in 1953 would qualify. Unless you’re looking for a particular serial number range. The Korean War made rifles start around 4 million. The end of WW2 production was around 3.6 million.

So a Korean War M1 most likely also saw action in WW2 also? Very interesting. Thanks.

Spotted a box of Hornady Black 62gr FMJ at Academy (it's all we have here in the sticks) and picked it up. I'll shoot it this weekend just to see how it patterns compared to the 62JSP, 55FMJ, and 69SMK.

I think I am finally....finally....set in regards to my "Doomsday Closet". I have my guns set up the way I want them, and enough ammo to last me through at least one Zombie Apocalypse.

House will probably burn down tomorrow.....

Go Vols.

I’ve got some barrels that like the Hornady Black really well. It’s a quality round. Inside 300 yards, it might pattern better than the IMI 69.

Yeah, aside from the occasional tweak from GV, I think I'm where I need to be. The need for an ambidextrous charging handle was made apparent during rifle quals, so that's fixed. I try, as best as I can, to train the way I plan to fight. We had Active Shooter training the following day (we use Simunitions guns...both handgun and rifle), and I'm as comfortable as I can be with my tactics. Fact is, you're just never "there". You get it.

So now we're down to ammo that will do what I need it to do, at the appropriate range. My "goofy" (sorry, GV) 1/9 barrels really seem to like the 62-69 grain range. What with me being a big fan of the .45, it follows that I subscribe to the "heavier hits harder" philosophy. I had heard about the Hornady Black, but didn't care to spend money to order it. When I saw it at Academy, I figured one box wouldn't break the bank, and I might like how it shot. So we'll see.

I get a lot out of this thread. You, GV, and DTH in particular. I listen to what you all say. And then I try to figure out what I need to do to set myself up to win the fight, if it ever comes. If it does, I am confident that my rifle will perform to its' potential. The rest is on me.

Thanks. And Go Vols.

Got some quality time with my scoped AR this morning. I'm limited to 100 yards, but with the BDC scope, the zero is set at 100 anyway, so...

The IMI 69 grain Sierra Match King load is the load of choice for that rifle. Shooting from a plastic K-Zone rest, on a folding table, sitting in a folding chair, I had 3 consecutive 10-shot groups right at 1MOA.

Into the sun, uphill both ways, in hurricane-force crosswinds, with Led Zeppelin blasting in my headphones.

Okay, maybe not so much, but I was pretty tickled at how consistent that round is. I also shot the box of Hornady Black. It's good, but my gun clearly prefers the IMI 69SMK. So I'm dialed in on both the scope and the ammo that I will feed that gun.

Now...time for some cold beer and Vol Football. Hopefully Coach Pruitt is as dialed-in as I am.

What brand of Ar are you shooting?

Took the 6.5 Creedmoor Tikka to the range today. Anybody looking for precision out of the box should give this thing a go.

Good grief. You're shooting a really nice-looking gun...with a scope the size of an aircraft carrier...off of a beautiful concrete bench...at ranges that normally require an artillery spotter...and likely getting sub-MOA groups.

I'm shooting a 1/9 AR off of a folding "church table"...on a plastic rest...in a folding chair...into the sun (in the AM)...at 50 and 100 yards...and I'm turning backflips when I get a 1 MOA group. 2 if it's the Federal 62 grain TBBC.

You and I do not live in the same world. You're in Jedi territory. I'm still trying to figure out what that weird voice in my head is.

Do the right thing. Put me in your will.

LMFAO! Go be poor somewhere else.

Seriously, any time you’re in the Houston area, I’ll treat you to some fun.

Probably not going to happen, but it does so happen that we train the Harris County (TX) Sheriff's Office Marine Unit. Just so you know, you've got some of the best boat operators out there that I've ever seen, and their unit commander is top notch. If I had to go back to the field, and had my choice of where, it would be in Harris County.

FYI, true story: last July, I got ejected from a boat during pursuit training. Chine dig at roughly 35 knots. Violent ejection and water entry. There was a Harris County deputy on my crew. He wasn't driving, and not his fault. Tore me up pretty good. Over 6 months to fully recover, and range of motion in my right shoulder will never be the same. A week later, I walk into the classroom with my arm in a sling and what would prove to be a permanent limp. And my HCSO guys (there were 3 of them in the class) present me with a set of wings from the HCSO Aviation Unit. Priceless. I love those guys. Those wings are on my impact vest (which kept it from being a lot worse) to this day.

But if I ever get out that way, I'll take you up on the offer. I've heard Texas BBQ rivals anything we're doing down here in SEC territory.

Said it before, but I've learned a lot here. Good thread. Great posters. Keep it up.

Go Vols.
