The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

When’s the last time you tried to buy a milsurp 1911 peepaw? $1050 for a fresh rebuild is a steal. A DCM pistol in that shape would be double.

Early 90s.

I understand that they are worth what people will pay, I'm just not willing to pay that much for one.

Are you getting one

I’m really interested in one from the Museum Progarm just to own a piece of history and I love 1911s

I’m contemplating it. It’s a lot of hoops to jump through.

Then again, we’re likely to never have this chance again. Yes, you can get a new colt at that price, that’s not the point. Like you, I love the 1911. To me, it’s the ultimate fighting pistol.

Bought a Springfield 43’ (matching bolt barrel and trigger) with replacement stock garand today. I’m in love......

Still haven't forgot

No hurry. I had to write a check to cover an unexpected family issue, so my “gun fund” is empty right now. Just interested in what your suggestion would be.

On another note, I am sold on the Federal 62 gr TBBC (556SBCT) as the best barrier blind Duty/HD round for my rifle. To that end, I have managed to acquire enough of it to last me for a long while. Not cheap. I also have enough 55 gr FMJBT to likely last me for years, and it’s easy to replenish as I shoot to remain proficient.

I’ll hang on to the two cases of 62 gr green tips as a fallback if there’s ever an ammo ban / restrictions, which I doubt will happen any time soon.

So...two 6721’s...one set up nicely as a duty rifle...and enough ammo to fight a small war. I’m satisfied...for now.

My guess on the auction ones is it’ll take at least $3k to be in the running.

my thought as well...

Would love to own a piece of history, even if I didn't know the history of the individual gun.

Still...every gun I own has a purpose. I have a Springfield 1911 RO, and here's hoping that it never has to serve the purpose I bought it for.

I'd rather spend a grand on a new Colt, and go back to the mountains for a week with the leftover cash.

To each their own.

Here she is. I don’t have any ball ammo so I’m gonna have to shoot her soon!!!

I’m naming her..... cougar.

She is ready for action anytime, she is hot, she is sexy and she is old.

Heyyyyyyyy GV! I had no idea Daniel Defense was so close to me. So it got me to thinking.....

Suppose I was thinking about a 16" heavy barrel in 1/7 twist for my 6721. Does anyone make them, and if so would you perhaps have a recommendation? I'm just asking for a friend.

:D

Now...

It all depends on "what you want to pay" when it comes to barrels. Sure, Daniel Defense carries such an animal, however, slap on the Daniel Defense price while you're at it. And the fact they don't have anything but mid length gas systems as the available option on their website. (doesn't mean you can't call and ask if they have a carbine length, but anyway)

Many manufacturers get their barrels from FN, which also means you get a cold hammer forged barrel. Bravo Company, Spikes, Rainier, Palmetto State (premium mods) and a few others get their barrels made by FN and in turn slap their logo on it. Doesn't mean they're all made the same, but most will be "machine gun steel" and cold hammer forged with that double chrome lining. Now, a few manufacturers end up "finishing" the barrels with a few things (crowns and whatnot) but by and large, they all will have the same thing in common of the base manufacturer.

Now, you could "up your game and grab a Lothar Walther or Pac-Nor barrel and pay a serious price. They also have additional weight, so not recommended for a patrol rifle.

Also...the industry more or less is moving towards the mid length gas system for the 16 inch variety you desire. Which is actually a simple swap of the gas tube for the actions itself. But it also means replacing the handguards as well. Not a huge price difference since you're already dropping $250+ on a new barrel anyway. You can still use your FSB if you choose, but also have that option of going to a gas block and slick front end.

Anyway, TL;DR version. I'd suggest the CHF Brownells or Palmetto Premium in the carbine variety if you want to keep your current setup. All with a .750 at the gas block. If you want to go mid length...possibilities are endless. Brownells, Palmetto Premium, Sionics, BCM, Rainier, Spikes, Centurion, DD, Larue, etc.

Is that one of the hackberry stocks?

I believe so. I’ve worked with hackberry a bit in woodworking and I’m not a huge fan.

I’m not sure where he bought the stock but it’s solid. I’m in a bidding war online for a 1945 walnut stocked stamped and all. I’ll let you know.

CMP is putting hackberry on them nowadays. Good wood is at a premium.

Thanks. As I said earlier, gun fund empty for now, but I'll save this post for future reference.

Meanwhile..."Mozambique Drill". Went and looked it up. Had no idea of the actual origin. In the LE world, we started this after the Mark Coates (SCHP) shooting. After that, we went to heavier loads, and the "two in the chest, one in the head" drill was incorporated into both standard and practical weapons quals.

On the tac side, we left head shots to the M/O teams. Practical experience had proven that it was all but impossible during dynamic entries / movement. Well, unless you're a SEAL / Ranger / John Wick. We trained 8 hours every two weeks. No where near enough time to perfect that skill. Plus we were using MP5's, UMP's, and H&K USP's, so we used "two center mass, two in the pelvic triangle". Turns out that a good shot in the "triangle" is almost guaranteed to break the hip bone and sever a major artery or vein. If you can get the head shot, fine...but if not, make those shots and stay behind the hard shield for 30 seconds. Let blood loss and shock trauma do the job.

Thanks for the history lesson. And in the scenario we discussed offline, I'll likely stay center mass for anywhere from 3-5 rounds. They'll be quick, and if that fails, it's "spray & pray"...lol.

Nice to have you back.

I’m sure mine is then. I’m winning the biddin war on my walnut original stock online but I have a not to exceed price too. So who knows....

Also, I purchased 600 5.56 55 grain federal rounds last week for $160...
