Brake cleaner is some wicked stuff. It doesn't remove finishes?

Never had a problem with it. It’s just aerosolized acetone. I use the non chlorinated stuff just in case. Really good at cleaning out actions on rifles and shotguns. Dries the metal out, CLP/Tetralube afterwards and back to normal. Bore snake for the barrel and back in the safe.

I don't think brake cleaner is acetone. I use acetone in my business and it acts, smells totally different. If I get it on my hands it doesn't really bother me unless I've got a cut. Brake fluid on the other hand burns like hell.

The chlorinated doesn’t contain acetone. The non chlorinated substitutes other chemicals like acetone and heptane to aid in cleaning/drying. It doesn’t dry as fast as the chlorinated kind, but it’s still pretty fast. And welding around metal treated with chlorinated cleaner can produce toxic gases.

Okay, you're dumb.

Feel better?

Much. Thanks.

Got an email from SGAmmo today. Ammo shipped. Be here by Thursday.

Crickets from the Nigerian Ammo Depot in Missouri. Even after the scathing email I sent. Big surprise there.

So...got my rifle where I want it; nice stockpile of ammo and Magpul mags (just in case). Check.

Rock is still at Armscor, but I expect to hear from them in the next couple of weeks. Comes back with Trijicon sights and a tune-up, which is probably going to make it my default OD gun.

Glock is still a Glock. Anybody got any experience with a lighter trigger? Something in the 3-4 lb range.

Springfield 1911 is now fed by CMC 8-rd RPM mags. They were pricey, but those are the most solid .45 mags I have ever seen.

Life is good. You saved me a chunk of money (again) by talking me out of a shotgun and into my AR for home defense. Which has caused me to change the way I store it, and yes, I spent half an hour or so working angles from the Master Bedroom out with it in the short-stock mode. Yeah, I think it will work just fine. The light mount is awesome in close quarters.

So...what next?

In the future, check out the Mec-Gar 1911 mags. Now, don't go rushing out to pick them up, just if you need a spare or two, they are a good alternative to WC or CMC.

I just purchased a Springfield XDS 45 auto last week. Love it in my Safariland paddle holster. My everyday carry now since I upgraded from the Sig 9mm.
