The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

Again, not terribly popular, but Kahr itself has a good reputation for standing by its products.

The CZ line and clones tend to be fairly bulletproof designs. Carrying that thing will be a challenge as it would with any solid steel pistol. If you're really looking for a solid full size .45 ACP pistol, might I suggest taking a look at this?

Walther PPQ M2 45ACP 4IN $587.00

Similar actions to your Go-Lock, but with far better triggers.

I really want that SA/DA. If I didn't I would go 1911. I'm not terribly concerned with the weight as I wouldn't be carrying it concealed. Wouldn't be using it as a daily carry. I'll probably drive up to Bud's and check those three I mentioned earlier out. may put a few rounds through them if they have them available.

Grand:

What do you think of the FN FNX45?

Outstanding pistols. Loooooooong double action pull, but a nice crisp SA for follow ups. Low bore axis that eases the recoil. I do like the angle on the grip as well (close to the 1911) and the ease of access on the controls. And one thing about it, you are not going to have that thing slip out of your hands anytime soon with that texture.

What many folks don't like is the slide release being right next to the decocker. However, if you learn to use your support hand thumb like one does with a 1911, there isn't a huge issue. Or just rack as you reload.

It's another pistol that's not terribly popular, but not for bad reasons. It's just hard to toss in a new polymer framed pistol into this market without it being some wunderbar phased plasma pistol in the 40 watt range. Plus, the market for the most part moved away from traditional hammer fired designs some years ago. It was created in response to a military pistol trial that never really went anywhere and the civilian side benefited from the military's ineptitude.

I know a thing or two about them. What do you have?
I don't have one yet, but I am very intrigued. I guess 'field grade' rifles can be had for $750 or so... is that a good deal? And I am not really sure that I necessarily want to shoot it, although that might be pretty cool, but just from the historical perspective I think I might like to have one. The CMP has some for sale and I have no idea if that is a fair price or not. Thanks

Yes, that’s beyond fair. The market is crazy on garands right now. The CMP is your best bet. I’ve done a lot of business in Anniston Alabama at their store over the years.

As far as collecting these rifles, you have to keep in mind these rifles are over 70 years old. Most have seen numerous conflicts by many different nations over those years. Just read their description carefully and keep in mind what these rifles have been through and you should come out happy.

Honestly, the best bet, if you’d ever want to shoot it, would be one of the special grade rifles. New stock, new barrel, new hardware. It’s not very “collectible” but it is a M1 Garand that will be basically as new.

I would wait to see how the Philippine garands shake out. Depending on which rumors you like to believe they are either pristine or roached. My guess is the truth is in the middle. The seriously roached ones will be made into Specials, which as of now they're not making too many. They are shipping a lot of Turkish rifles right now and the stocks are pretty terrible. The PI rifles will give you a better shot at USGI wood, which is what you want. If you can find a good deal on HXP Greek ammo I'd get it, otherwise PPU makes .30-06 for around .70/round which is about where HXP is selling right now.

Remember your cost is for a pig in a poke. Yes it's cheaper than Gunbroker or a gun show but with the latter options you pretty much know what you're going to get. With CMP you have no idea what's going to be in the case other than the manufacturer.

Funny thing about the Turkish ones, as of about ten years ago, the Turkish military was still using them as a front line rifle in some Air Force units.

There are pictures within the last decade of captured ones from Iraq. We sold Iran a bunch of International Harvester rifles in the 50’s, they were still using them in the Iran/Iraq conflict, and they filtered over the border during OIF/OEF.

SCV, register on the cmp forum and keep tabs on the north and south store forums. There are a few guys there that are pretty good about updating what’s on hand in the stores. To get the best possible, you’d have to go to the store. They have two, one at Camp Perry Ohio and one in Aniston/Oxford Alabama. You can buy in store, then ship to your house.
