The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

I guess that's to be expected with a short barrel and pistol length tube? Thanks as always Grand. :hi:

Yep. There really isn't an "industry standard" for pistol length gas systems in an AR platform. So some manufacturers tend to overgas it to ensure reliability.

Causes early gas port erosion though. Something to keep an eye on.

Went back to the shop and talked with the guys about the problems with my FAL. Guy spent ten minutes looking at it. fiddled with a few things. Opened it up and found the bolt wasn't oiled up. He said it was unusual for that to not be oiled if everything else was.

He gave let me use their range to make sure it was good. He pointed out a few things I was doing wrong, which I figured there is plenty, and got it going. I put all the ammo I had down range. Only 80 shots but that 80 went faster than 40 before.

Still got to get used to the weight of the rifle, aim got worse as I went on just from fatigue.

Bought some more ammo, signed up for a class and got on my way in about an hour. Feeling a lot better about the gun than I was before.

I was reading some forums and most tend to think the H2 is the right one for a similar setup to mine. I need to pop the one out and see what it is. I ordered it as a kit, pistol tube, buffer, and spring. I need to make sure it's not already an H2. Also, I need to be careful because I plan on shooting it suppressed and subsonic. I'm hopeful I can find a setup that works for both and even a 556 on the same lower. May be wishful thinking.

If it came as a set, is be willing to bet pennies to dollars it's a carbine weight buffer.

And I'd look at the Springco offerings for an action spring as well

I'll check it in a bit and post the results. I thought with it being g a pistol set, maybe they put something heavier in there for the shorter barrels. You're probably right though.

I don't think there are any issues with the PPS.

My CCP is waiting a return call from Walther to go in for repair. 2nd range trip was a disaster. Hope they can fix it because I love it (assuming it works).

Bham what's up with the CCP? You hear back from Walther yet?

Good to hear they got you sorted out. Also nice to hear you are attending a class. Cheers!

A dealer not cutting corners?

Made me lol

No markings on the buffer. It is different than my other buffers though in both color and shape. It is black. I'll probably just go ahead and pick up a H2 and give it a shot first. I'll be making it an SBR when I receive my stamp (going on 8 Months now), so I want to make sure I get it right.

If it's not marked, it's very likely a carbine buffer.

Got it back pretty quick considering it was sent in just before Christmas.

The replaced the striker but I haven't had it out to the range.

Frankly I'm not optimistic it will ever be reliable but I'll give it a try and keep sending it back if necessary.

It feels so damn good to hold and shoot - wish they swapped the ergos to the PPS which feels good but not nearly as good.

Yea I've had that same feeling the few times I've held a CCp and almost bought one. Did you check out the new PPS M2 yet? That thing is sweet.

Ok gents, so I've emailed with American Tactical a couple of times and finally have confirmation their Omni Hybrid Maxx is rated to stand the pressure of a 6.8SPC. It's actually documented in their 2017 Product Catalog; of which they sent me a free copy. Now, I know most of you guys still aren't fans of the polymer receivers, and you're certainly entitled to your opinions, but I'm gonna give this a try. We'll see how it turns out...

Now, back to the original issue that prompted my original post: which caliber should I build? I'm torn between the 6.8SPC and the 6.5G (after quickly dismissing the 300BO). Grand, I make the assumption that if the polymer receivers can withstand the 6.8SPC that it can withstand the 6.5G; would that be a safe assumption in your estimation?

All the pressure is in the chamber anyways, the bolt will always slide back in a straight line and the metal reinforcements on the plastic receivers, I've seen .308 do fine on polymer, as long as the barrel is of good quality I wouldn't see a problem with it.

Just to clarify, I wasn't pooing on the polymer receivers. I've never owned one so I'm not qualified to make a judgment. I just was trying to understand the reasoning to use one over the aluminum when they can be had for the same price. I'm definitely interested in how your build turns out. Please keep us informed. I'm about to start my 6.8 build myself.
