The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

Okay, I didn't take your advice GV, and I even went against my own better judgement. I had decided to steer away from the hybrid receivers, but I found an Omni Hybrid with the aluminum infused around the buffer tube mount and rear takedown pin (where the original models had issues) for $39.95. I bought it... I'm gonna give it a shot (no pun intended), and if I don't like it then it was only $40.

We will see...

I know lots of folks who use the polymer or hybrid lowers as dedicated .22 LR rifles.

Maybe...?

And if it doesn't work, just add another $10.

Nah....won't do a .22LR; I have one of those already. I'm still trying to decide between the 6.5G and the 6.8SPC, but it will be one of the two.

I'm looking now at LPKs, and there are as many options as a Taco Bell drive thru menu!! Lol... I don't think I'm gonna go standard. I may do RBA's "Build Your Own." I can get the grip and trigger I prefer in that kit. Do you have any experience with RBA?

I wouldn't use it for anything other that 5.56 personally and that's a stretch. Those calibers have higher recoil and could put more stress on the receiver.

No experience with them. Honestly, get the Palmetto State without the trigger and buy your own separate.

And I hope you understand I'm not trying to be a dick about this. It's just there's a good reason companies that invest entirely in polymer lowers don't last. I'm just trying to save you some hassle on the back end.

No worries at all. I'm not offended at your opinion or information provided; actually, I appreciate it. I asked the questions so I certainly can't be offended at responses that may or may not be something with which I agree.

I'm still undecided on what I'm going to do, but your information has caused me to extend my research time on the matter. I feel like I did ample research before the purchase, but will do more. I even emailed American Tactical and asked a few questions in regard to voiced concerns.

I'm not in a rush so the time it takes isn't bothersome. We will see how it goes...

Just curious, not meaning to be a smart azz, why would you go with plastic when you could get aluminum for the same price?

Well, when I first saw then on the internet I thought they looked pretty good. I did some research and they seemed like a decent product. When GV first spoke against them, I decided to go either forged or even billet, but just hadn't chosen one yet.

Last week I just happen to run across this polymer lower at my LGS and it was only $40. I looked at the metal inserts and how they were placed into the receiver, and it seems like a good concept.

I didn't buy it immediately; I went home and read and watched more videos. There are clearly mixed reviews, but I think that's the case with any new or semi-new product. Anyway, I went back and bought it earlier this week.

I'm certainy second guessing the idea of building a 6.5 or 6.8 on this particular lower, but I think it will be fine for a build of a 5.56 if nothing else. I'll wait and see what ATI R&D says before I decide for sure.

Oh, I received a response back from them today. The sales rep couldn't be sure about the abilities of the hybrid and a 6.5 or 6.8. He knew the product had been tested up to a 7.62x39, but wasn't sure beyond that. He's going to check with ATI R&D when they get back from Shot Show. I'll let you guys know what they say.

I've built several of the Anderson Lowers and have had good luck with them all. I'm slowly getting everything together for a 6.8 build using an Anderson lower. You can't beat them for $39 IMO.

I definitely haven't ruled out Anderson. I live in KY and they're a KY company so I don't mind supporting home-state industry.

Palmetto has a new years special right now...an AR15 and a 1911 together for 999bucks. Ad is pn the radio in greenville about every 15 minutes. Sounds like a good deal, dont know build specofics.

Slightly dated, but relevant nonetheless.

And FTR, it's far easier to teach women to shoot than men. Which is why I end up getting 18 shades of pissed off whenever I see some yahoo tossing a shotgun or big bore rifle into a non-shooting woman's hands just to see her get hit by the recoil.

**** those a-holes.

Anyway, good article and certainly gives one pause for thought over what they see at a gun range.

Yep, women are much easier to teach than men.

Speaking of Sig Sauer...

https://www.defense.gov/News/Contracts/Contract-View/Article/1054538

Sig Sauer Inc., Newington, New Hampshire, was awarded a $580,217,000 firm-fixed-price contract for the Modular Handgun System including handgun, accessories and ammunition to replace the current M9 handgun. Bids were solicited via the Internet with nine received. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of Jan. 19, 2027. Army Contracting Command, Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, is the contracting activity (W15QKN-17-D-0016).

Sig Sauer beat out Smith & Wesson, Beretta and Glock for the contract worth up to $580 million, which includes firearms, accessories and ammunition.

The Army did not immediately provide any additional information Thursday evening, including specifics on the weapon or the caliber of the round.

Interesting. They actually made the sensible choice.

It'll only be sensible if, and only if, they actually use the modularity of the platform across the board. No more different types requiring different mags and parts. Consolidate down to a single system and swap the slide when needed.

Yep. I would hope that's why they chose that platform.

Ok, Grand or anyone, what's the difference between 6.8spc and 6.8 spcII?

Chamber size. The original SPC chamber wasn't quite up to snuff, so, they increased the leade slightly and called it the 6.8 SPC II.

The SPC II is meant to handle slightly more pressure and longer bullets.

Yep. I would hope that's why they chose that platform.

It's the military my friend, they don't always do things according to common sense. Hence why they have the M9 as a main handgun and the Sig P228 (M11) as a concealed carry pistol.

Made as much sense then too.
