The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

I'd like a complete revision of the NFA34 myself. As well as deleting the Hughes Amendment. I'm fine at the moment with keeping full auto on a registry with a tax stamp as long as the Hughes Amendment goes away. But the SBR, SBS and suppressor portions are moronic.

And I really want the ITAR to go away.

But we'll save that rant for the other thread.

Indeed. I agree completely.

The Hughes Amendment in the so called Firearms Owners Protection Act. Passed under very shady circumstances in 1986.

I don't mind the tax stamp but limiting the available firearms is wrong IMO. I suppose it runs up the price thus limiting the number of people that can afford them. Maybe that was the goal?

I grew up reading the columns of Elmer Keith and Skeeter Skelton in my granddads leather shop that was attached to his house. There were stacks and stacks of gun magazines in that room. I'd often sit in there while poppy was working on a belt or something and read the exploits of Elmer or Skeeter and even ole Colonel Cooper. All that being said, my dream gun was always the smith and Wesson model 24-3 in .44 special. I remember reading about that very revolver in those magazines as a kid. I dreamed one day of owning one. Well, this happened this morning. I'm a happy camper.

You may have even already read this at some point but it's seems like something you'd like.

Sweet wheel gun. I had a chance to buy a 6" Python without the box for about that same price year before last. I passed and have regretted it since then.

OK guys. Got to go out and start dialing in the AR build I built for longer ranges. When I say longer ranges I mean 200-300 yards. Here at my house I can get out to 200. I started a couple of weeks ago at 50 just to get it on the paper. I topped the gun off with a really nice Vortex scope. Variable from 6-16. I moved out to 100 today. And started out with five shot groupings. I was using federal fmj to get as close as I could before moving on to the more expensive stuff. My question is, how tight of groups can I expect with 55g fmj at 100? My groupings were a little disappointing at probably 4".

I went ahead and moved the scope a little as everything was a couple inches high. I then switched over to Winchester varmint ammo which is a 55g jacketed soft point. My groups improved to about 2". I was shooting from a bench but I really needed a support under the but as I wasn't as steady as I'd liked.

Anyhow, next I'm going to move out to 200 and see how she does with with the fmj, then the Winchester. If all goes well I have some federal fusion that's 65g and some Hornady that's 62g.

Just thought I'd get you guys thoughts.

Equipment:

Anderson lower
Geissle (sp?) SSA trigger.
Anderson upper
NiBo BCG
18" spiral fluted bull barrel with mid length gas tube/block, 556 wylde
Monstrum free floating quad rail.
Vortex Viper HS LR 4-16X50 scope with dead hold BDC reticle.

Great looking rifle!!

4 MOA for regular 55 grain does sound a bit excessive even for factory ammo. What's your barrel twist rate anyway?

And to be honest, you really see groups start to tighten up when you use match grade ammo. I'd suggest this:

20 round box - 5.56mm 77 Grain SMK OTM LR MOD-1 Razorcore IMI Ammo Made by Israel Military Industries | SGAmmo.com

And anything in the Black Hills Ammo line with a grain weight of 68-77. Hornady 68 or 75 grain as well.

Toss a few boxes of that downrange and see how the groups look then.

1:8 on the twist rate.

What other sites are you guys aware of for good prices on high quality ammo other than SG?

I tend to shop around a bit, but I've ordered from the following with decent luck:

Ammo To Go : Ammunition | Bulk and Cheap Ammo for Sale

J&G Sales

The Armory: Armory, guns, firearms, ammunition, ammo, accessories, equipment, reloading, muzzloading

Aim Surplus

Ammoman is a last resort since his markup on ammo tends to be higher than most. But sometimes he gets stuff in that nobody else has.

I also peruse Palmetto State, Midway and Wideners and check what's on sale.

Okay, I didn't take your advice GV, and I even went against my own better judgement. I had decided to steer away from the hybrid receivers, but I found an Omni Hybrid with the aluminum infused around the buffer tube mount and rear takedown pin (where the original models had issues) for $39.95. I bought it... I'm gonna give it a shot (no pun intended), and if I don't like it then it was only $40.

We will see...
