The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

When purchasing for my wife, I had intentions of going with a 9mm. But after shooting both, the recoil of the 380 was more appealing. She liked the Bersa thunder 380+. It hold 15+1 so she can put quite a bit of lead down range.

I carry a .40 btw.

The .40 Short and Weak? I did too until I realized I was punishing myself for no good reason and swapped it out for a 9mm in the same model. And a .40 in a subcompact is punishing, don't care who you are.

It's a matter of personal preference of course.

Yes, I carry that Keltec P40. It isn't fun to shoot in a package that size.

Any one have the Streamlight TLR-4? Was looking at the 2 but wasn't sure if the money difference was worth it.

For my home defense Sig P226.

I can't speak to the 4, but I have a TLR 1 HL I love. Nothing like 800 lumens to spotlight someone.

You ever used a laser before? I ask because a lot of folks try them and end up not using it in the long run.

I'm not sure where you are looking, but check these folks out for decent prices.

Haven't used a laser - figured it wasn't much more to have it.

Strobe of any value?

Other than the tacticool mall ninja effect, most people outside of tac teams and whatnot will never use the strobe.

The problem, IMO, with a laser is the folks that concentrate on the beam instead of the fundamentals of shooting. They ignore the sights and start looking downrange. Furthermore, many are unnerved at the bouncing laser on the target and take longer to put a shot off. Also, after a certain range, the laser isn't as noticeable so you end up taking more time to search for the spot rather than lining up the sights and negating the threat. All in all, it can lead to all sorts of bad habits.

I'd honestly pay the extra money for a higher lumen light than the laser combo.

ETA: And a good set of night sights for the Sig. Lights and lasers fail. Irons don't.

I have compared them, and the 42 is smaller and shorter, and so from a concealment perspective is a better buy. That said, I prefer the 9mm to the 380, just not sure how much. I'll probably go shoot both to see.

That said, my main problem now is I bought a bodyguard 380 for my wife and we hate the long trigger pull. Now I need to find a similar sized weapon with a positive safety. Any suggestions. She wants a small gun to carry loose in her purse.

Sig p238. 1911 style safety, sao, great factory trigger, drop protection and accidental hammer release protection, get a galco gun hide pocket holster for it and she can keep it in her purse, my wife carries hers in her purse sometimes, mostly she carries it in a alien gear iwb holster, bass pro and academy had their own "style" of the p238 for 499$

Sig has the siglights sights which work well.

I'll pass on the strobe and possibly the laser.

I have the p238 and it's a great shooter. Amazingly mild for such a small package.

I got the rosewood grips the but rubber Hogue's were a great upgrade. Much easier to handle.

The safety is nice but gotta practice with that style. (1911 style)

Definitely need a lot of practice with it, my wife and I both drilled with and instructor for 2 hrs 3 seperate occasions, with both our cc pistols, we have kids and wanted safety's on both guns, I carry a S&W mp shield 9mm, with my brace response holster I carry 2 extra mags

Shot my FAL yesterday. Only put 100 rounds down range. Had some issues and I am going to have to take it to the shop, may be sending it back for a fix. But overall I happy and think it's worth putting in the work to fix it.

I will post more later

Sorry but carrying a gun "loose" in a purse is not a very good idea.

So the bad is that I am having serious issues with the receivers. Both upper and lower.

If the pics come thru I had about 9 cartridges come out beat to hell. Out of 100 rounds had way too many not clearing the breach. Also the extractor (forgive incorrect terms) was trying to feed two rounds at a time on a fresh mag. Ended up putting one in by hand before slotting the clip home to get it to work. The gun Had issues with feeding new rounds in and kicking them out. Sometimes the return was too slow to kick a round out or other times so fast the breach would close on the spent cartridge.

Good news is I enjoyed shooting it and did well, IMO. At 100ft got about 90% in an 8" square with the rest at 12". Recoil was not bad and the kick up wasnt bad. When I got it going I would think I had shots out in 2-3 seconds. Wasn't as heavy as I was afraid.

Definitely want to get the kinks worked out. I think if I can get it working I will really enjoy shooting with it.

100 feet or yards?

The extractor extracts the spent shell from the chamber. The bolt face is what will push the next round into battery. Some places to start:

Are the mags seated properly?
Are the mag springs installed the correct way? This can be wrong even on brand new stuff
Type of ammo being used?
Any adjustments made to the gas system?

I don't know much about your platform but I will say on an M1 the operating rod routinely dents the neck or shoulder of extracted cases as it pushes them away and loads another round. If the gun is designed to have an ejection pattern more in the 3-6 o'clock area then you may have too much gas pushing the bolt back. So it's got so much momentum it's catching the cases on the return when they should simply leave the chamber untouched.

Too much gas, if you can adjust the gas pressure you should be good, let a professional help you out

Maybe give this a try?

Okay, for all of you AR builders, I'm not sure how you guys build multiple rifles! I've been window shopping trying to decide on the parts I want to use in my first build....this idea can get very expensive, very quickly!!!

I did a spread sheet. I would build a mil spec first if you are on a tight budget. You should be able to build a budget AR for around $500. I'll put together a list of vendors I've used that I've gotten good deals at.

Thanks for the help... I'm certainly not loaded by any means, but the budget itself isn't a big problem. I think it's more of my "souped-up" desires... Billet receiver set, Giessele trigger, ARP barrel and bolt, G&R Tactical LPK, and the lost goes on....lol.

I guess my previous comment was aimed more at the possibility of being able to buy a complete one cheaper than building one at the rate I'm going! Lol...

Palmetto State Armory Ammunition, AR15 Parts, Magazines, Bulk Ammo - Palmetto State Armory

They have it all but not everything is a good deal.

Primary Arms

AR-15 & AK-47 Parts & Accessories | Primary Arms

I've gotten those Anderson Lowers for $39 from time to time. They have it all too.

Ground Zero Precision

www.groundzeroprecision.com

I've only gotten barrels from them and they've had a good selection and good deals. Customer service was very good too.

Monstrum Tactical

www.monstrumtactical.com

This is Chinese stuff but I've had good luck with the rails. They are very responsive and helpful. I screwed up a barrel nut, my fault. They sent me a new one, no questions asked, even though I owned up to the mistake. Covered postage too.

Other sources:

Fat boy tactical
Joe Bob outfitters
Aim supply

There are others but I can't seem to think of them right now.

If you want, I'll put together a parts listing.
