The Official #24/#18 Tennessee vs. Syracuse Game Thread, 12:00 PM ET, ABC

You're right about one thing, it's not worth arguing over ....

.... but you clearly do want to make the case that Syracuse isn't any good, and that today's game is a sign of bad things to come for Tennessee.

Every college football team deals with large off-season attrition nowadays. That's just the landscape of college football in 2025. Tennessee had a great deal of turnover on offense as well. However, unlike Florida (Long Island? Seriously?) Tennessee played legitimate competition today and there were some things for optimists to be encouraged by, and some causes for concern among the downers. I think we can see which one you are.
Heck, all you have to do is look at Florida State. About 76% of their production today is from transfers and they look light years better than 2024. Everybody better get used to that concept. Just because teams were good or bad one year means nothing the next year. It’s going to be predicated on how good of a transfer talent evaluator the coaching staff is for the system you’re running.

For the third time I’ll say this to someone. Syracuse lost more starters than ANY team in the fbs this year. 18 starters. 4 drafted. They are literally a completely new team.
Have you looked at UTs roster. We lost a lot to the portal, graduation, no eligibility, and the draft. We had a shuffled OL, QB that has only been on campus since mid summer and a ton of new true freshman.

I guess the ONE thing I struggled with today is that Yasin Willis is the “real deal”. His size and ability are noteworthy and we NEVER adjusted to focus and stop him. Yes we won and did it convincingly but we should have had an answer for him as the game went on. He just “seemed” to get better. Better adjustments are something I think we struggle with. My two cents.

I was particularly impressed by how we had to shuffle the line today due to Sanders being out and two guys making their first career start did pretty good. I know the Syracuse defense isn’t Georgia but it’s still a good sign.

Clearly whatever rule the NCAA put in place to curb faking injuries was not effective. These 4 hour games wear me out.
Yeah. I was exhausted after game. We arrived at the stadium around 10:30. We hung out at the lounge some since there were so many injury time outs. Ridiculous! Game ended around 4pm.

Go Vols!

Fun thought for any night owls prowling the forum at this late hour -

Lee Corso wasn't just right today, he was HELLA right.

Everyone on Gameday picked Tennessee in a close game, or Syracuse to cover. Not Coach. "Tennessee with a new quarterback destroys Syracuse - DESTROYS them. Big game. Cover."

Everyone picked Alabama to beat Florida State. "Florida State upsets Alabama."

He was also the only guy to pick LSU over Clemson.

But he was right. We destroyed 'em good. That's damn right. Thanks for all the memories, Coach.

Well, except for that elevator ad. You know the one. But, the other stuff was mostly okay so.
