This season is insane.
Any other season and a team like Tennessee that struggled down the stretch would be just hoping to stay within 1000 miles of campus for tourney.
However, so many quality and historically good programs have also struggled that this team could reasonably host a regional next week.
In particular, the ACC is making it very hard for the committee as their champ was unranked until this week. They look to host 4 regionals and that may be a stretch as FSU and Clemson actually failed to live up to their experience and talent.. Louisville tanked, Virginia tanked. Miami tanked. Duke struggled, Wake Forest and NC State were consistent. Notre Dame has no business in tourney field.
In no other season would Southern Miss have a chance in hell to host.
Coastal Carolina has feasted on ACC weaknesses
Oregon and UCLA would not be hosting if they were still in Pac10 but in B1G they loo better than they area.
TCU is the only Big12 school with a pulse as West Virginia flatlined losing 8 of 11 some mediocre competition.
Long story short, the NCAA tourney will be a complete crap shoot. With their injury and depth, I don't believe Texas has a snow ball's chance to win it all.
LSU with all their talent has underperformed and any other season would not be a top-8 seed.
The draw will be more important than ever as a mid major's #1 or 2 starter will beat a lot of host teams.
DBU would be salivating to play Texas
Columbia would love a shot at Georgia Tech
Kansas would stun nobody by winning in Fayetteville.
And a P5 team that barely gets in as a #3 seed (Ole Miss in 2022) has a shot at it all.
And what if Texas A&M gets their **** together this week and earns their way into NCAA tourney? What host would want to see the Aggies come to town?
