Minnesota gave Dallas the World for Herschel Walker. Cowboys ended up with three Lombardi Trophies and Minnesota ended up with heartache...They gave up too much but Ricky was awesome for them. Much worse trades than that. Like Broncos Russell Wilson. Almost the same deal as Watson, just less guaranteed $
Read something else that the GM for the NY Giants had sent Sanders an “install” to prepare for the interview and didn’t do it. Came in totally unprepared, GM called him out on it, Sanders took exception to being called out and the meeting ended in pretty short order. It wouldn’t surprise me if that except isn’t too far from the truth if Sanders didn’t prepare for any of these interviews with teams. Word can get around that way.
Of course I don’t know him in the least, but it would be zero surprise if the Apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree here. He’s likely seen his dad get a lot of mileage out of it and emulates that behavior or persona…and it’s not playing well with today’s NFL GMs. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle on this, but enough to the negative side to have pushed him further down in the draft. The write up is probably fake but there were several reports from people that said roughly a version of that. They didn't get that specific but I did see at least a few reports that they graded him as mediocre. So this write up is probably a fictionalized version of some real sentiments about him.
Now every deal is compared to that one. Previously it was a no brainer to get a proven bonafide superstar over unproven draft picks if given the choice, but Jimmy’s genius was taking advantage of Mike Lynn’s limited mindset with the proven players tied to draft picks if they weren’t retained. And no football mind since (save maybe Belichick) has run a similar clinic on trading up/down and into future drafts like a riverboat gambler. Aided by the 12 rounds model and no unrestricted FA. Like breaking DiMaggio’s record.Minnesota gave Dallas the World for Herschel Walker. Cowboys ended up with three Lombardi Trophies and Minnesota ended up with heartache...
I loved the "Fedora" he was Mr. Dallas Cowboy but in that 3 to 5 year stretch Jimmy Johnson was greatest Cowboys head coach of all time....Now every deal is compared to that one.
