Figured I'd start one about the Horses, Trainers, and Jocks; as opposed to smuggling in booze and frat parties.

I like the Baffert entry Midnight Interlude coming from 15. That said, I bet lots of ponies, and never bet anything from Churchill on Derby Day because the odds are more or less retarded in their fluctuation.

Best starting line?
Inside? Outside? In the middle?

Well, most races aren't big fields like the Derby, but I generally shy away from inner 2 and the last outside, unless theres 7 or 8, in which case I can live with an outside spot.

In a massive field like the Derby, I like to look for a fast pacer from the middle, especially when there isn't any elite talent in the field.

My reasoning is anyone on the rail is likely to get pinched, where a horse with a fast quarter coming from middle-inside can jump out and claim the rail.

The Derby is a crapshoot, though, my opinions come from betting nags at Mountaineer, but they generally hold well.

I'm putting $20 on Twice the Appeal. Come on, Bo-Rail. He's at 20-1 right now.

Race day walkups will bet that nag way up. Bad proposition.

If you want to get a good experience, just bring $50, and pick one of the mule train on the board, $15 to win, $35 to show.

I clearly don't know what I'm in for. Can you clear that up in simpler terms?

Wouldn't mind having a 100k to lay down on Mucho Macho Man. But after the the Village People not so much.

Friend of mine had 100 across the board on Animal Kingdom. He won around $6,000. I won nothing. Damn.

Such is betting 18 Tier 1 horses in one field... Did you enjoy the excursion?

It was incredible. One of the best experiences I've had.
Oh, and he picked Animal Kingdom because next semester he's working for Animal Kingdon for the Disney intern program.
Two years ago he put $100 across the board on Mine That Bird because he was going to work at a bird reserve.

Lucky ass.

A coworker of mine asked me who she should bet on and I told her Animal Kingdom based purely on the name. She's got a nice chunk of pocket change now.

Nice, had I considered throwing my last minute $4 across the board the board on him instead of Decisive Moment, I'd have made back all my losses, and then some. Damnit.

I had Twice the Appeal also. I'm still very new to betting horses.

Saturday was my first time betting.

I started off with a 2-4-6 Trifecta Box on race 2. I lost it by a snout (damn you horse #5). Throughout the day I bet a couple more to win and a few ATBs. For race 11 (The Derby) I put $10 ATB on Twice the Appeal and a last minute $4 ATB on Decisive Moment cause he was 38-1.

I laughed at everyone betting on Pants on Fire. Why would anyone bet on a woman driver?

Forgot to mention the actual experience. We parked at 7am and were in line by 7:30 for gates opening at 8. We were right against the fence directly next to a scissor lift for cameras. Directly across the track was the screen. Best "standing room only" seats in the house.
We were relaxed all day. Bet here and there. Drank everywhere. We stood up during the post parade and huddled at the fence. Then came the Vols chants. We sang "Rocky Top," gave a few "It's Great to be a Tennessee Vol" chants, and then some.
"Most Exciting Two Minutes In Sports" is accurate. The thrill of the race was close to unparalleled. I didn't win, but I only cared slightly. Oh, and one of the guys with us started a yelling match with Bammers, Cats, and Boilermakers (still not sure why they had a problem with UT...douchebags)

Wife had Animal Kingdom across as well. Betting at our club capped odds at 20-1 (and prorated for place and show,) but it was still a nice payday.

For some reason, though, the winnings are hers and the losses are ours, so I haven't seen any profit.
