The Official #15 Tennessee vs. #6 Georgia Game Thread, 3:30 ET, ABC

Yeah, year 5 with a TN team that had hit perhaps an all-time low, sanctions, now consists of 54 freshmen and built for the future, with the 4th QB in four years and a journeyman at that. Against a team few have beat, has multiple NCs, and is on another talent level.

He did exactly what any coach with a brain should have on the last possession, put your team in a position to execute for a win. One guy committed a penalty and another missed on a game-winner well within his range.

A lot of fans don't deserve this coach.
Beatdown UT fans can come up with more excuses for losing as anybody in the country. Losers make excuses...winners don't have too. Good job. Year 5...excuses are out the window. He's being paid 9 million per year to win these games.

I sure hope he owns it with the postgame commentary. None of his typical “good effort but lack of execution “ coach speak. Own it , admit you made some mistakes and talk about next week. This team is going to need some leadership rn. You know they’re devastated.
He definitely didn’t. Might be more disappointed in that.

When was the last time we had a kicker that we knew would walk onto the field and hit a 43 yarder for the win? The last several years I would get a dollars that we would make it.

There was that stupid poll earlier in the week, who is going to be our most important non QB, I said Ty the CB and he did nothing to help with a win tonight when it mattered. I said telaner 2nd and yeah... he made like zero big plays and he had a lot of plays. Can Spillman get his snaps please? OK, I am just a fan but you defensive coaches dont know **** except for Garner who can recruit and have a big impact on the game. Linebackers and CBS. Wtf?? Make play or go to 2nd string.

Delusional UT fans who need to live less through college guys playing a game, could be happier, well-adjusted people that others aren't inclined to shy away from.
Maybe we should fire Heupel or cut his pay to $5M.

That would tell all the coaches lining up for the job we really mean business, I bet.

More excuses...Good job. Keep them coming. They are hilarious.

Guys played hard, kid missed a FG, but I gotta put this one on CJH. We had momentum and he took the foot off the gas and got conservative in key moments throughout the game, his downfall every time.

Had first and ten with the ball in FG range with three TO and totally botched the game winner. I know he wasn’t kicking, but he (again) took his foot off the gas and after that, the series went to ****.

Once it went to OT, I think we all knew it was going to be an L.

The refs should be investigated.
You gotta go for the jugular after the strip-sack by Josephs.
Vols play better when we are loose and aggressive.

I’m thinking that due to Tennessee’s decade of dysfunction, many fans accept Tennessee being a pretty good, but not a great team and coming close to beating GA and/or other top tier teams - being pretty good but not great at recruiting - certainly better than the decade of dysfunction but not great.
I've been thinking the same thing these last couple of years. We are thinking like an Auburn or Florida level program when we have a much higher football pedigree.
We should be stronger and deeper on the line of scrimmage by year 5. We have had devastating injuries on defense, but should have much better depth to fill in.
Tennessee should not be relying on a freshman cornerback at this point in Heupel's tenure.

Hard to disagree with the last bit especially.

I think we have a good team, but the posters who think the rest of the games being easy need to pump the breaks. Mississippi State is much improved and we play them there. While Alabama and Florida are not the teams of past, those two road games wont be easy. We seem to have Kentucky's number and based on what I have seen, Kentucky in Lexington should safely be a win for us. Vandy, Arkansas and Oklahoma at home wont be walks in the park. We could very well go 11-1 or we could just as easily be 8-4. The SEC is brutal week end and week out. I am just as disappointed as the rest, but our guys could have folded the tent and called it a day when Georgia went ahead in the third. Past teams have done this. However they didnt quit. To quote Coach Fulmer "it isnt about the X's and the O's it is about the Jimmy's and the Joe's." There is a lot of wisdom in that statement. Georgia has consistently had top three recruiting classes for ten years. We are putting together a good class if we can keep it together. I think we can all agree that Coach Huepel is easily the best coach since Fulmer. Yeah I agree he made a couple questionable calls late in the game, but he had a solid game plan that worked for most of the game. We just have to keep recruiting. Heck folks if you lived through Dooley, Champions of Life and Cornbread, the couple mistakes Coach made today look like nothing in comparison.
