The Official #11 Vandy @ #15 Tennessee Series Thread (Fri. 5/9 5:30PM EDT SEC Network) (Sat. 5/10 5PM EDT ESPN2) (Sun. 5/11 3PM EDT ESPN2)

I don't know what the problem is overall. They may need to get away from the home run derby and play some small ball. The pitchers need to hold the runners, we can't afford to give free runs with our staff. Play baseball, get hits, steal bases, bunt for position, anything to get runs. The last batter had the bases loaded and swung for the fences on the first 3 pitches without even touching the baseball. Shake it up and get ready to make a run!

Errors cost us... Alot. And it keeps happening. Should've never really been in that position to have to walk it off. That's the most frustrating part. Sure they played better. But still hurting themselves.
2 of the errors were on throws to first holding the runner. That’s as basic throw & catch as you can have. None of the pitchers have even a decent move so 1st Base shouldn’t get crossed up. The pitcher made a bad throw on the other.

Peebles made a bad throw to 3rd for the 3rd error. Errors & inability to move runners or hit in clutch cost them this series. 1-12 with runners in scoring position gets you beat.

My only critique this season...

Just 4 batters with 150 ABs on the year (before tonight). I get we're young and he wants to mix it up and see what players got but it's also difficult for guys to work through slumps and be ready in big moments.

Last year 7 guys had over 200 ABs

Also I get Chapman is in a hitting slump, but he's our best outfielder too.
The last sentence is not remotely true.

27 outs is tough to get and Kuhns was throwing good and so was Krenzel , I just don’t get it with Loy , Snead and Franklin they’ve all given up runs nearly every outing for weeks , Snead was solid Friday , using Russell in a game we’re losing is a head scratcher , just some questionable moves by the staff , we’re just flawed fundamentally and Vandys approach at the plate is much better than ours as well as their situational hitting
Vandy is 15th in the league in BA. 11th in walks, 13th in K’s, 14th in HR’s, 15th in doubles, 13th in hits. This was a complete anamoly for them.

To be clear I was mostly saying I’m not sure Newstrom over Reese was the right call.
It wasn’t about defense it’s about the plate. Newstrom is the hardest out on the team. He spoils so many piches. The guy single handily ran up Vandy pitchers pitch counts this weekend with his foul balls. Hopefully you don’t think a K in 3 pitches is the same as a K in 10 pitches. The box score doesn’t differentiate, the eye test and impact on the game do.

Right, and the first 2 games he played as the DH while Reese was in RF.

Welp, one weekend left of the regular season. Hopefully, people show up for Hunter, maybe Colby, don’t know his status, for Belmont.

We showed some attitude the last two weeks. AJ Russell being back is awesome. Looked great. Everything is still there, but we’re gonna have to earn it. Hoover is an opportunity but we need to have a good weekend against Arkansas. Snead really couldn’t have done anymore.

GBO!!!

Tells me all I need to know. Peebs has been incredibly clutch despite his overall struggles these 2 years. Outside of Ensley and maybe Fischer, there’s not another person I’d want at the plate in that moment.
I think Abernathy needs to be in the everyday lineup. He gets on base which is what this team needs.

Besides Fischer, Ensley and pre-injury Klein, we have had those type of expectations for guys on this year's team that would probably be the 7-9 hole hitters on last year's team and, unfortunately, they just haven't stepped up and produced consistent results as of late.

There are a lot of holes throughout this year's roster, but that is somewhat to be expected when you lose so much talent off a championship roster and your best three players the following year are all new transfers.

Paging txbo...

Leaving 13 men on base is just what we've been doing in so many games down the stretch. Been really tough how guys are not coming through with runners on base. Just one of those stretches in this season we can't get out of. Hopefully we get the bats going with runners on again.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on what we need to do in Arkansas to host a Regional , I’m gonna say win the series or we’ll be on the road

I have a hard time seeing us win a game there much less take the series. That place hasn't been so hospitable for our guys.

I know it’s been a rough trip in the past but just trying to flip the script and keep moving forward , we are who we are and it’s up to our own guys to play better

small ball cost us a big opportunity yesterday. two on with 1 out and we bunt one up to the catcher. that's not a middle inning play. you do that in the 8th or 9th

Definitely need 2/3

16-14 didn’t get the ‘23 team a host spot and that team didn’t lose 4/5 SEC home series
