The Official #11 Tennessee vs. #7 Alabama Game Thread, 3:30 PM ET, ABC

At this point I have to agree. Nico looks broken. His mental clock is off. He has poor awareness in the pocket. Maybe we need to stop forcing Nico to play the way we are. At least for now.

We had some success rolling him out last week. Why is the staff refusing to do anything different?

Remember under Milton when we threw too many WR screens and now we don’t do it enough.
Absolutely, lol. But they haven’t thrown many at all this year. Whether it’s Nico can’t hit them accurately/consistently enough or the WRs not getting their blocks with them, or just coach not going there with those greens who knows

He was so poised and calm on the pocket. I truly don’t know what happened. Perhaps playing real opponents now…?
I don’t know. Maybe. I think his confidence is shaken. It seems like the Vols have forgotten how to throw to the running back, the tight end, and how to run a slant. Nico needs quick short throws, but not behind the line of scrimmage. A dink and dunk passing attack can win this game.

You know what's really weird to me? Nico has been practicing against our elite defense this whole time. One would think that would improve him, but it seems like he still struggles against inferior defenses to ours.

I'm thinking more and more that Nico is a Gurantano-like situation. He looks like a Heisman contender during practice, but once he hits the field, it all falls apart because of issues between the ears.

This is why I thought Merklinger should have played more in those early blowouts. He could very well come in and possibly play better than Nico today.

Red zone play call where nico threw the int was 3 post patterns, doubled teamed 2 receivers on the side he rolled to, single coverage on opposite side, no one to throw to with that ignorant play call
The middle post was open. Don’t care what orlovsky says

The first drive of the second half is massive. We have GOT to figure out a way to keep the offense on the field for a long scoring drive and keep our defense rested.
