The Official #10 Auburn @ #12 Tennessee Series Thread (Sat. May 3 11AM EDT) (Sun. May 4 1PM EDT) (Sun. May 4 45 mins after) (All games SECNET+)

Curley has too much talent to bench him. Gotta let him work it out. Bet he’ll be there for us when we need him.
Why though? Why not play someone else who gives the team a better chance to win? Isn't this a TEAM SPORT? I never did understand this line of thinking. He can sit the bench like anyone else. Talent?? Use it then!

Where do you turn? What's the better option?
I'd let one of the younger guys play. Who that is? I don't know. Grimmer? Is he an infielder or outfielder? Clark? Same question. I'm sorry but I don't think someone who has literally single-handedly cost games should keep starting.

Tough sledding again. Last 5 SEC series:

6-9 overall W/L record

Scored 3 runs or fewer in 7 of the 9 losses

Average giving up over 10 RPG in Sunday/Game 3

1-4 Series record

Lost 3 straight Home Series

Lost 3 straight series overall

RPI is down to #14 overall. 2 series left. #5 RPI Vandy at home, #4 RPI Arky away.
Stats don't lie. This is who this team is.

Old Forrester is good stuff. Really underrated. Got a bottle of 1924 sitting on my bar.
Agreed. I can't get stuff like Eagle Rare and Taylor, but I don't really feel like I'm missing out anymore. Considering the price difference, I'm pretty content with Old Forester. I do overspend when I go back to GA to visit family for the stuff I can't get here, but life is short and variety is the spice of life, right? Plus, I'm not taking anything with me when I depart this world so....

I just watched the replay of CTV going to each ump and telling them what he thought of them. Loved it when he was berating the 2B ump, who was behind the plate for game 1, and showed him how low and outside balls were pulled back into the zone by the catcher for a called strike. That ump watched the catchers glove more than he did the ball.

I’m disappointed in how this season has ended up, but I can’t say I’m surprised. I think this is one of those years where Tony’s decision to schedule soft in the non-conference fooled the fans. We lost basically the entire team this off-season, and the hot start had some making ridiculous claims about this year’s team being potentially better than last year’s team. It wasn’t fair to the guys then to have that type of pressure.

Truth is, this team is young and lacks an identity. It’s a rebuild year and the 20-0 start had us thinking it wasn’t. I think ultimately this team just doesn’t have it, which is completely understandable. I think next year the struggles from this season probably pay off.

Funny thing is the wife pays more for a bottle of 1924 than for Eagle Rare or Taylor.

Puncher's chance at a Super Regional if the Vols win both series and show out in Hoover. Unfathomably, relative to even a month ago, almost a guarantee of being on the road for Regional play if they lose 4+ games from now until the SEC Tournament.
I think this team is done, they have gotten worse over the past 15 games and haven't improved any area.

All joking aside, maybe the grind of the SEC has worn them a bit? Yeah, I know they play a lot of ball before getting to college, but the stress/pressure has to be exponentially greater at a program like UT and a league like the SEC. Suspect some of the youngsters likely are pressing to hold their spots by making an impact, but it's got them second guessing instead of just playing ball. Remember even guys like Burke and C-Mo didn't tear the league up as freshmen. Same with pitching. We've got a core of vets, but we still depend on youth...a lot of it. Suspect we'll see a much different team next year and going forward. No substitute for experience.

I think the grind and pressure of being on an SEC baseball team is a big part of it. I'd definitely feel the pressure, but I'd also remind myself to do my job and focus on fundamentals if things aren't going really good for me.

It's difficult to improve without being somewhat experimental in game situations. Practice is important, but not everyone is wired to rise to the occasion when the pressure is on like it was today.

Right now is a fairly difficult time for Spring athletes: Projects are due, finals are on the horizon. Friends are graduating, it's allergy season etc. One thing I've noticed about guys my age is that we're not that good at taking care of ourselves AND if you're young enough, your body is still changing so players have to adjust gaining weight, height etc.

I admire baseball players because they have to remain calm and patient at the plate and be able to think quickly and execute on defense. For example, think how much time passes between at bats.

I think it's really difficult to grow program like UT is doing in baseball. Balancing the promises a coach makes to players about how often they get to play is so much more difficult with NIL and the Portal. Tony seems to do a good job of that because look at all the talent this team has.
