Isn’t this basically just a senior bowl? Considering Shack and Igor are meh, yeah I’d say they do need to show something.Anyone else find it interesting that Mashack & Milic are at the PIT, but none of Lanier, Ziegler or Gainey are?

2025 Players & Teams
There are over 400 PIT alumni playing professional basketball around the world. There are prominent PIT alumni playing in the best professional leagues in Europe, Asia, Australia and in North and South America. More than 65 PIT alumni played in at least one NBA game last season.www.portsmouthinvitational.com
Could mean nothing could mean something, I’m with you that Lanier showed enough so wouldn’t expect him to participate in it, so no shock there. Zeigler and Gainey not taking part was the more noteworthy part to me, neither of those guys obviously are projected draft picks.Isn’t this basically just a senior bowl? Lanier doesn’t really need to play in that…does he? Projected draft pick…in his position, there’s no reason to hurt yourself
Gainey and Ziegler….cant answer that
I believe Lanier would also still have a year of eligibility. The covid year essentially doesn't exist as a year played on your NCAA sheet. Lanier has played 4 years that count against NCAA eligibility.I mean Lanier is out of eligibility no matter what, even if the 5th year is granted. So, him not being there doesn’t seem to tell us much. I think we may be reading into it more than it really is. Trippie is probably right, the simple answer is usually the right one. Lanier doesn’t need to be there. ZZ and Gainey probably proved enough already to make a summer league team.
I'd think that opens the windows for a whole slew of kids, then. I don't believe that is being considered. The same way that the 5th year rule wipes out redshirts, I imagine it is designed to wipe out the covid year, as well. I can see where the argument can be had, but I'd venture to guess that the NCAA will argue you got to play in that season.Yes, but the covid year is a non-year, aka it doesn't exist as a year played towards eligibility. He's played 4 years that count towards eligible years.
We'll see, I'd say the vast majority of players that schools would want back for a 5th year have already played some form of pro basketball around the world.I'd think that opens the windows for a whole slew of kids, then.
