The Official ‘Smokey XI’ Thread!

Nice read

XI will be 3 on 8 August, so Happy Birthday to him. You be a good boy this year!

It’s football time in Tennessee, and that means Smokey XI will soon be leading the Vols through the iconic T. Fans will dress in their Tennessee orange, sing “Rocky Top” at the tops of their lungs and even take a few pictures of the new mascot, but they might not know much about this new pup or the new Tennessee-born and -bred bloodline.

“It just started with the love of a bluetick and has developed into teaching others and an incredible opportunity with the University of Tennessee,” said Wendy Davis, the owner of Davis Branch Blueticks.

This was a great article.
Loved this part..

Smokey XI’s nickname is Bernie, and his brother’s is Ernie. Their names are in reference to the famous 1970s Vols basketball duo Bernard King and Ernie Grunfeld.

I had a dachshund that I named “Ernest Bernard” that we called Ernie in honor of the great duo.

I do wonder if the overdone DJ music and pyrotechnics could have contributed. I'm not trying to be an old Fogey, but I'm not a huge fan of blasting music every play. Watching a couple of other games this past weekend, I didn't hear nearly the constant barrage.
He had big shoes to fill. But you’re right, Smokey X had a completely different stadium experience back in 2013 when he took over.

The DJ music is way too loud for people. I can’t imagine how severe it is for a hound.

Of course, I could also blame the kicking game.

I can’t locate Smokey IX’s obituary but he’d be about 22. He was a good one. That’s him wearing the blanket during a game in Neyland versus UK. He made the official injury list in 2011 with a torn ACL. He was also accused of biting a Bama player by Shula.

X was great at running through the T. He’d get all worked up in anticipation of the upcoming sprint through the band.

VIII won the 1998 NC.

Kids today have to be constantly overstimulated. Smart phones have ruined attention spans and they require a constant seratonin fix
