The Numbers Crunch And Slicing Off The Bottom.

Everyone has a slightly different opinion, but we have about 6-7 possibilities left. No way on this earth we get them all. Realistically we are doing very well if we get 3 or maybe four of these. We can SIGN all of those. Of those who sign, we can ENROLL 26 in the fall. History says we will have enough academic issues that no one we sign, who qualifies, will be turned away.

So realistically we are right at the line and in fantasy island NSD we are screwed, but in a good way? That the gist?

We have a Lawyer for a head coach! Trust him! He will figure it out!

In DD I trust but not in a OMG look who we just signed kind of way. I think he filled a crappy cupboard with a lot of thought for the future with just enough beasts to be the sleeper class of the SEC this year.

Lol thats my take on it. Yeah that would be a great case of being screwed....

I dont have alot to base this on, but i think this is going to be a great staff at evaluation. Saban is a genius at that and dooley and thompson have both been exposed to that system. Heck they both were recruiting coordinators for him.

First off the 28 player limit does not play until May 31. You can sign 90 but you must be down to 28 come May 31.
Lots of coaches do this and move them around to get down to 28. LSU signed 29 last year and got caught with 2 too many and had to ask them to walk on.

I may be asking this in the wrong thread, but with all of this recruiting talk, has anyone stopped to consider this:

How many players can UT sign this year?

Alright, so we are only allowed to sign 28? I thought ole miss signed like 40 last year. And what's with all this like sign under one year and then sign more players the next? And are jucos treated the same? How many players can u redshirt? Thanks

signing and enrolling are different.

I believe we can sign 30 but only enroll 27 this year.

JUCOs count the same as freshmen.

Many good notes within the recruiting forum. Suggest checking there as the above poster stated, we have roughly 5-10 threads already.

there may be a bunch of threads about this, but the information in the threads are often contradictory. In addition, if you can believe what we are hearing from folks like "Skeeter" and others who apparently are "in the know," we are actively pursuing (and quite possibly leading for) several more high quality recruits than we appear to have space for. I agree with the sentiments of several others on here that claim the numbers don't add up.

from what I gather:

1-back count
25- signed and enrolled
3- sign and place

so we can get 26 into school and "sign" 29

IMO the question is not really how many we sign but more around who wouldn't qualify and potentially open a spot

the question in the OP about redshirting doesn't matter to recruiting (except for numbers but not sure we're there yet)

I don't understand why 3 guys would go with the sign n place option...unless they have to go juco?

that's what sign and place is. It's just polite wording of "I'm a Vol but I can't get into school right now"

Quick question related to this topic, assuming the 26 enrolled and 29 signed number is correct, with regards to the 3 sign and place guys, if they get their academics in order after 1 year in JC, do they count as 1 of the 28 signing limit for next year at that point as well? I would imagine that since they don't count towards our 25 enrolled limit for this year, that they would definitely count towards this figure the year they actually get accepted to UT. Is that correct?
