I honestly don't think it's much of a question if he'd excel at coaching. He was basically a coach on the field for most of his career.

The big question is does Peyton even want to coach, and I'm not sure he does. If he doesn't 100% want to coach, then he absolutely shouldn't do it. He has absolutely zero to gain and, you'd think, quite a bit to lose from getting involved in coaching at Tennessee. It's impossible for me to put myself in his shoes, but if I did I have no idea why he'd come back to Tennessee and coach. It is such a below his pay grade job and if it went south it could affect how he's perceived.

Although perhaps not as much as you'd think - Michael Jordan has been an absolutely horrendous owner/Head of Ops for an NBA team and it hasn't really changed how people view him. Of course he's also the owner of a totally irrelevant team. If he took over the front office of the Bulls and ran them into the ground or something like that, perhaps it would affect his legacy.
I believe Peyton would make a great AD. Groom him as an assistant for a couple of years before letting him take over. Think about the recruiting if he came back to UT. I don't think Peyton would want to coach because it would be a grind and if the program did not do as well as expected there would be a firestorm of negative publicity.

It could be that Pruitt is talking to a lot of people (I'm sure he is) and will ultimately choose Friend. Butch, for example, took days to name Larry Scott OC after DeBord left. Knowing Butch, it was pretty clear Scott was his guy the whole time but it took days for him to make the call anyway.

Hahahaha

Mental gymnastics on full display here.

The guy you love does the same thing the guy you hate done and you figure out a way to make it okay.

I am curious. Why not? Does he have some bad blood with our program now? I am not saying I want him but I doubt he has many offers right now.
Tee lasted one year as the OC at USC. Most everyone knew he has not yet a proven he is an OC and we have enough coaches learning their way around the coach9nf circles. I don't think he can handle an OC job anywhere by himself. What about the OC at Memphis?
