The NO-HIRE list.

If we hire Will Friend, it is because we missed out on other guys. If Will Friend is the first choice then he would have already been named the guy. Pruitt didn't just find out about Tyson 2 days ago.
It could be that Pruitt is talking to a lot of people (I'm sure he is) and will ultimately choose Friend. Butch, for example, took days to name Larry Scott OC after DeBord left. Knowing Butch, it was pretty clear Scott was his guy the whole time but it took days for him to make the call anyway.

I can respect that, but I ain't gonna lie. Its just like when I wanted Chip Kelly for HC last year. I didn't really think it would happen and if it did I had no idea if he would succeed here, but....just the fact we hired him would have given me the feeling that the AD were actually trying for once.

Totally get that Behr. It does feel like the admin resents our existence at times.

Will Friend

I know it's probably not fair, and he has been a fairly successful OC in the G5 (at Colo St) but coordinating an offense against SEC defenses is a unique thing. It requires SEC experience. Since Pruitt's OC is going to pretty much be HC of the offense, this hire has to rock solid. Plus, promoting Friend would just have to much Butch-like feel to it. We've lived that, don't want more.

I put him with Gruden as far as recruiting meaning, he wouldn't have to leave his office to recruit. Would he be able to excel at coaching? That's the million dollar question.
I honestly don't think it's much of a question if he'd excel at coaching. He was basically a coach on the field for most of his career.

The big question is does Peyton even want to coach, and I'm not sure he does. If he doesn't 100% want to coach, then he absolutely shouldn't do it. He has absolutely zero to gain and, you'd think, quite a bit to lose from getting involved in coaching at Tennessee. It's impossible for me to put myself in his shoes, but if I did I have no idea why he'd come back to Tennessee and coach. It is such a below his pay grade job and if it went south it could affect how he's perceived.

Although perhaps not as much as you'd think - Michael Jordan has been an absolutely horrendous owner/Head of Ops for an NBA team and it hasn't really changed how people view him. Of course he's also the owner of a totally irrelevant team. If he took over the front office of the Bulls and ran them into the ground or something like that, perhaps it would affect his legacy.

If Pruitt fails and Sanders keeps building ETSU the way he has so far, don’t rule out Fulmer putting him on a short list for next HC.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Frankly think ETSU is Randy's ceiling.

Another foray into the SEC would yield about the same results as before IMO.

Agree completely. I also think if his kids were grown coaching would be on the table for him.

I am curious. Why not? Does he have some bad blood with our program now? I am not saying I want him but I doubt he has many offers right now.
People are still crying about him not taking a lowball, insulting offer to come here as an assistant.

And here I thought Peyton came to UT and gave of his time without recompense.

Even if you are joking, you should be banned for life for just saying that.

Are you suggesting as an alternative that Jones should NOT be put on the NO HIRE list?

And I'm the one who should be banned?

Pretty well everything with this football program has been a joke the past decade. Some gallows humor would do you well.

The thing is Bobo called the plays on Gameday at Colarado St.

No List:

- Butch Jones and Derek Dooley
- Air Raid offenses
- Wing T or Triple Option (obviously)
- No really gimmicky offenses like Auburn (Spread Concepts are okay, but not based on trick plays)

We need a pro-style offense that can use some RPO and spread concepts. We still need to be able to go I-formation or single back under center. Balance, balance, balance! We need an offense that can do more play action and also utilize the tight end more off of a fake. Helton ran too many straight drop back with 2 combo routes on each side of the field where the combos did not interact with each other. Must use all the field and routes that work together more than just picking a side to throw to a combo.

Oh, sorry. I misunderstood. I thought that you meant we should consider him. My bad. Yes, I totally agree with you, then. I take back what I said.
