The next two games will be the difference between playoff possibilities and another New Year's bowls.

This week:

#7 Stanford and #10 Washington play. One will go down outside of the top ten.
#8 Wisconsinand #4 Michigan play. Wisconsin could fall outside of the top ten with a loss, Michigan can fall to 8-10 with a loss.
#3 Louisville and #5 Clemson play. Both could drop into the bottom half of the top ten with a loss.

A&M plays South Carolina this week.

There's a LOT of movement that will happen in the top ten this week.

If we come away with wins at Georgia and A&M, we can be set up for a huge matchup with Bama that could put us in a place we haven't been in a while...fighting for #1. Even with a loss to Bama, if we won out the rest of the season and got them in the SECCG, we could still have a case for playoffs.

These next two weeks are absolutely paramount. I'm thrilled beating Florida, but I hope and pray we have the leadership and maturity to be ready to lay into Georgia this week.

It's a good time to be a Vol folks. This team can do it. Let's get behind them and support them!

I really think we build off the second half of Florida. The monkey is gone and we can finally exhale so to speak. We are once again the favorite to win the East and rightfully so. Like I said in another thread maybe im not giving UGA enough credit but I really don't think they are a good football team right now. They can afford to get better in a lot of places and escaped against Missouri this week Ole Miss brought them back down to reality and gave them a beating. I don't necessarily think they play that poorly two weeks in a row but a week isn't nearly long enough to fix all the problems they have.

The Tennessee offense should be able to move the ball pretty well against them and have opportunities down the field in the passing game. I don't think they can cover Malone especially if he gets a step. They play the run decently but if we lean on them they will fade.

I REALLY like the Tennessee D in this matchup. Its a Defense that knows its self pretty well thus far against an offense that to me is still trying to find itself. Assuming that they want to be run heavy not having Chubb or a limited Chubb heavily favors Tennessee. Im not scared of the passing game if we can take a guy like Calloway out of the game then I see no reason we couldn't take Mckenzie out of the equation. Outside of him they don't have a solid #2 or a safety valve like in years past.

I would love to see Tennessee kick away from Mckenzie but fully expect him to influence the game at some point he is simply to good not to.

Nope we gonna do this.. One game at a time they can beat anyone as long as they play 4quarters and when they do put together 4 God bless whomever gets it..

I think we will be 6-0 going into the Bama game with them undefeated as well..If we win we will still not be #1 cause of all the VOL haters but we will be in a great position for the back half of our schedule..then we will see Bama again in the SECCG... maybe lose and be a 1 loss team with a few others..then we will see how strength of schedule really plays out in this or the VOL haters will keep us out of CFP..we will see..GO BIG ORANGE!!!!!!!!

Im not sure how you could honestly say that without seeing a complete game from this team. I get it we have started out really slow the first half but who is to say we don't play a complete game against ATM and win it in the game of the year?

Hopefully the momentum from the 2nd half of Florida propels Tennessee like the momentum from the 2nd half of Georgia did last year

This is the ideal scenario. Game day would again be in Knoxville and we could once again show the world what Tennessee football is all about.

There's no way to know, I agree with you on that but to his point and to what you said, we have not seen this team play 4 complete quarters but we have seen aTm and Bama play lights out in at least one game each so that's really all we have to go off of.

I think we win vs GA but you can't ever tell with them having that much talent but say we do win that one. aTm is a match up nightmare especially with Sutton out as they can sling it over your head or throw short and make a man miss and be gone when you pressure them with those recvrs plus the qb draw. They have a lot of answers for blitzes. I just don't like that match up for us. Just my opinion. And Bama, well that's all I'll say.

If I had to bet the farm I'd agree on us beating UGA and losing to aTm and Bama. With team 120's talent but lack of playing a strong full game, yet, we could win or lose all 3 IMO.

Honestly... I don't see us beating Bama twice in one year. Best case would be a loss in regular season, then winning the sec championship. If by chance we win regular season, lose in the championship... Do we still have a shot for the playoff?

I've thought about that myself. If our only loss is to the #1 team in the country, and it's not a blow out, I don't see why not...

Highly doubt it

We (ie, e people who do something) don't need to overlook UGA. Imagine how they looked at us in 13', when they came in here and left the luckiest team ever.

I am not sold in the Tam D. I think it is good but not deep. We pass early, stretch the field and pound the rock second half. Limit their possessions.

The haters will say that the SEC is in a down year and that a one loss SEC team will not deserve to leap frog an undefeated Ohio State or Louisville.

ATM might just be our toughest game from a team standpoint.

Tennessee has an O line that by all accounts is getting better. I thought they did a great job of protecting Dobbs Saturday night. Obviously there is room for a lot of improvement. That said looking at aTm the given is that people are talking about Garrett and rightfully so but a lot of people are forgetting they have a damn good one on the other end too. Their linebackers are playing at a high level and I haven't seen to much get by them on the back end.

Its at Kyle field too. The likelihood of us going into that game undefeated is very high in my opinion and they would like nothing more than to send us on a long trip home with a loss. The 12th man will be rocking and the noise will be insane.

I really like the way we match up against their rushing attack. I thnk we can really limit the big plays from them but I don't think anyone will shut them down completely. My area of major concern is a lot like the rest you: covering on the back end without Sutton. I think Buchanan, Guaden and co will have to be on their A game for this one. We already know about Christian Kirk the guy is electric and can turn 9 into 90 in a blink. The other guy you don't hear a lot about is Speedy Nole(sp?) another burner that can make people miss in a phone booth.

The X-factor is Knight most are saying he is finally in a system that fits his talents and hes obviously proved that to this point in the season. Can the Vols relive some of the success they had against him at Oklahoma and make him unsettled and inaccurate. I hope so.

So tell us all, Jimmy the Greek, how in the &$*# you know we lose to Bama and A&M? Let me help you with that answer....YOU FREAKIN DON'T'. Nobody knows at this point. So unless you are a freakin Vegas bookie or Nostradamus was your great-grandfather, you need to shut the ^$%#@ up about who we beat and who we lose to. I fully expect us to WIN every freakin game!!!!

Do you teach your children to always look at the glass as HALF EMPTY?????

I don't necessarily think people are over looking them but going off of what they have seen thus far.

They just aren't a very good football team right now but they clearly have the chance to be. They have a future stud at QB with a rocket launcher for an arm. The running game is there but Chubb could be limited. The O line in my opinion is a mess they aren't making holes in the run game and they struggle blocking good DEs. On the outside they have Mckenzie who is there only proven guy the rest of them are prone to drops.

On Defense they have a lot of talent but they are trying to learn a new system I don't care how many times Smart tells people its no different than the last coaching staff. They don't play sound football and they cant cover on the back end. They had a lot of trouble the first 3 weeks and Ole Miss not only brought them back down to reality but gave us an exact blue print on how to beat them.

X-factor without saying Chubb is McKenzie because they use him in some many different ways if he makes one person miss or gets a block he goes for 6. Hes a special talent and must be accounted for on every down.

That said I don't think this is Georgias year I think they'll take a few more lumps before they get all the errors ironed out.

This week is critical. Georgia isn't that good but we have to guard against a letdown going on the road after a big emotional home win.

I've thought about that myself. If our only loss is to the #1 team in the country, and it's not a blow out, I don't see why not...

It would depend on what else is happening around the country. Obviously, Alabama would be taking 1 spot. We'd need a scenario where there isn't an obvious choice for the 4th spot. The committee is not going to want to put us in, so they'd really need to see that no one else is deserving.

Possible scenario putting us in:

1. Houston loses somewhere
2. Louisville or Clemson locks up the ACC, running the table, while the other, as well as Florida State, each lose twice
3. Either Ohio State or Michigan runs the table and wins the Big 10 championship, while the other loses twice.
4. Everyone in the Big 12 has at least 2 losses
5. Everyone in the Pac 12 has at least 2 losses AND the Pac 12 champion comes from the South division (i.e. Utah) and they have 3 losses.

This scenario would lead to Alabama, Clemson/Louisville, Ohio State/Michigan being 3 obvious picks, but no one clearly deserving of the 4th slot, opening the door for us.

As you can see, this is an unlikely scenario. It's my opinion that the committee is not going to put 2 teams in from the same conference unless they basically just have to do it.
