While its absolutely fair to say that I am a rival fan and therefore will from time to time promote my team at the expense of yours, I don't think that its fair to characterize my comments as "smug" or "arrogant" just because of the source.
If as Jack says there are plenty of Vols fans who shoot down the rah rah threads and that's okay, why is it that when a rival fan does it the cry is, well, he is just an arrogant such and such?
It seems to me that if I had a UT flag on my avatar and changed my name to NeylandisGod I could make the same comments I made earlier today and no one would be nearly as perturbed. In fact, people would join in and go, yup, he's right, we need to prove this on the field and quite getting excited about a bunch of yammering from an unproven coach. But if I say exactly that with my avatar as is, then the thought is automatically dismissed by those who don't want to think it.
And this is what is so intellectually dishonest: You have little regard for the objective facts. You don't even really care about the comment. Rather, if those facts are pointed out to you in a comment from a rival fan, your solution is to ignore the facts and just blast the rival fan so as to discredit him and the comment.
While I don't disagree that I can sometimes be quite aggravating (ask the women I date), you make it sound like its calculated, like I lay in the weeds and wait for opportunities to make snide remarks.
You give me way too much credit.
In reality, I'm just like everybody else and some days I feel like being a little combative, some days would just prefer to shoot the bull. So today I read this week's 34,762nd "Whoppee, we are back!" thread and felt it my solemn duty to go eh, maybe so, maybe not.
Lighten up, Frances.

You write really good:thumbsup:
You guys are always excited about football between February 1 and the third Friday in September.
Its the third Sunday (in September) on through January where you get all mopey about it.[/QUOTE
and two weeks later u guys get to have a cry on my shoulder time in a press conference
This time tebow can talk about playin hard earlier in the season and cry about bein the hardest workin girls in da streets:run:
Law,
I know you are very aware of not being on top (ie zook and anyone pre spurrier). So you can harken back to those "old" days when other fans would peruse your team's site and inform you that you have nothing to look forward to next season. I can only imagine that you or some of your cohorts could not help but respond and defend your team on your fansite.
If you expect anything different here then you either don't know the fan base or you are simply trying to ruffle feathers.
Why should we have any optimism anyways? We've got a new staff comprised of former nfl coaches who have fired up the base and instilled discipline in the program again. So please forgive us for being excited. The assinine comments you make won't change that, so get used to it.
And believe me, you won't be on top forever, so keep that in mind next time you tell us to give up all hope.

Looking at everything that has gone on in the past few months and the changes made with our football program, I must say that i love this new energy. I can never remember a time when I have been so excited about Vols Football in the middle of February. After quite a few year of sub par play if think we are all expecting something totally different. There is a change of mindset on the hill. Our coach no long sits by and gives the fans lame phrases such as "workin' like heck", instead it is in your face we are the Vols and we ain't takin' crap from anyone,..anymore. We are not used to standing our ground and being the talker instead of the talkee. A lot of folks are not sure what to think of this new found self promotion and to be honest I wasn't either. But to truley embrace this new found blunt in your face mind set we as fans must approve of the product that is on the field in the fall. But in the mean time I really feel as though I have something to be excited about again......so there really is no point to all this but I am truley excited about football, CLK,CEO,CMK and the recruiting class of 2009, great job and Go Vols...I know I'm not alone on this!!!
