Honestly, I'm much more worried about the fielding and hitting. I feel better about Rodgers than I did a couple of weeks ago so maybe we'll be okay at 3B. I don't feel great about 2B, and I liked Maggio at 1B, but his BA wasn't all that great and he's had surgery this summer so no at bats in summer ball for him. You've got the juco kid Hill coming in, but he's in the OF.

Smart, Maddox and Price were the 3,4, and 5th most productive players offensively behind Stew and Senzel, below them there was almost no power.

Great info. on the team as always vol66 but why not a good feeling at 2nd? Don't we have anyone that can replace Maddox?

Many of the 2014 guys have played top notch summer travel ball. With the likes of Evoshield, Elite Squad, as well as Atlanta Blue Jays. These newcomers to Tennessee have the experience to compete at this level and do very well. Be heads up with Santiago (C), Soto (LHP) & Camarata (C) they all have won a summer National Championship in PG being major contributors.

Senzel will replace Maddox at second and lee will DH. Looks like we will be in great shape at second.

I think Freddie is probably right, I think that is what they hope to do.

However, I'm not as sure as Freddie that Senzel is the defacto second baseman. On the few opportunities he had at 2B during the season, I wasn't particularly impressed defensively. What happened during the summer made it even more cloudy in my view. The coach kept moving him around because they had guys that could play 2B better. Senzel played a lot at 3B, in fact the best thing that happened to Rodgers was Senzel cutting the summer short, he was negatively affecting Rodgers playing time early on. They tried him a few times at 1B.

Just my opinion. Sure wish they would release the schedule.

As long as we have short and third covered, we can hide our second base problems.

Vol66 I was a little worried after the last comment about Senzel so I had to do some homework...your facts are a bit inaccurate...out of the 18 games that Senzel played before he left for the summer he started 11 of those at 2nd...the other two 2nd basemen that the Miners used split time (6 each at 2nd)...he played 3 at 3rd (didn't take up that much of Rodgers time) and 4 at 1st...he had 80 TC's with 1 error (that was at 2nd)...he started 8 games at 2nd for the Vols last year...20 TC's no errors...I didn't even realize until I read his bio that he was a Freshman All American (I'm sure that was more his stick than his glove...but still)...my worries about 2nd are put to ease now...thanks for making me work thou...I learned a lot...:)

Hmm...Out of a 54 SEC game schedule he got 8 starts at 2B. I believe, just going off memory, at least one of those 8 starts was a midweek game, just to give Maddox a rest and get Senzel some experience. The rest were due to Maggio's injury. So we agree on the same stat there, but in that context one must consider that as each game progressed, if we were within striking distance or we had a narrow lead, Maddox went back to 2B.

In terms of Alaska, if Senzel, Rodgers or Serrano got the start I watched it. I think I missed two games on a camping trip, but I think Senzel was done by then anyway....this would include all games, not just league games. It's hard to really accurately measure the whole summer ball thing because Senzel didn't seem to be "all in"...stats tell a part and the eye test tell a part and comments of the coaches tell a part, the rest is unknown.

I'm not knocking Senzel, as you say, statistically, his performance at 2B was fine. He started 45 games at DH for UT batting .315, that's why he was a Freshman All-American. The fact that he is great at the plate gives him an edge over a guy like Moberg for instance, so as most expect, Senzel is certainly going to get every opportunity.

This is what happens when you sign quality arms everyone has heard of.........signing kids and developing them is the objective.

Can CDS develop arms? My guess is yes based on his track record.

If you're expected a freshman phenom in college baseball, good luck, it happens however they are far and few between.

I think the pitching next year will surprise a few, need to improve the depth however its a work in progress and its getting better.............what else can you ask for?

So are you stating that Serrano does not go after high rated recruits for he can not sell them on the TN program. Just wondering as I believe he would have been happy to atleast get a visit from the names above, even more a commitment for the chance that they might not go pro.

He's signed highly rated recruits already.
