The negativity about Lane Kiffin coming here is baffling to me. No matter who we would have got, people would have found something to bitch about:

with Kelly - oh, he isn't a proven recruiter and there's no way he could go up against Meyer, Saban, and Richt, so he can't succeed here.

with Leach - his offense won't hold up in the SEC, home of some of the best defenses in the nation, so he won't succeed here.

with Davis - his overall coaching record is nothing to write home about (can't remember exactly what it is), so he won't succeed here.

with Muschamp - he's never been a head coach before, so he won't succeed here.

with Patterson - see Kelly, so he won't succeed here.

Get the idea?

I'm all for having your own opinion, but can we at least give the guy a chance instead of throwing him so far under the bus he'll never get out? All these Kiffin haters need to relax, get over yourselves, and get on board because this is our new coach.

Anyway, how do we know that "your guy" would do better than Kiffin. The answer is: you don't!! Some of you haters may be right, he may be terrible here and lay the golden egg, but he may also do extremely well and get us back competing for SEC and national titles...no one knows. So in the mean time, people need to quit talking like they know "for sure" that Kiffin's the wrong guy when they don't really know at all.

Kiffin wasn't my top choice, but I think he will do just fine, I don't see why some people are hating on him. Like you said though, people would bitch no matter who the hire was.

I was thinking this as I was driving into Knoxville this afternoon and listening to the callers on the Sports Animal (my first time listening to the station). The callers have already determined they want to run the guy out of town. Of course by the sound of it, they aren't the sharpest callers.

I'm fairly certain that EVERYBODY would bitch about being shot no matter what the bullet was made out of.

Hey he wasn't my first choice but I am behind him 110% and hope he builds us a rompin stompin ass kicking machine of a team...Let's all get behind him an give him a chance to succeed instead of predicting failure....Go git em coach!

I stopped listening to call-in radio a while back. Frankly, it seems as if the call screeners actively search for the least intelligent and most biased callers possible. Like television, call-in shows are after the most explosive discussion possible even if that means eschewing intelligent conversation in the process.

Well being from Memphis I never get to hear the Knoxville sports talk so I gave it a chance.

Kiffin will be able to inject youth into a Tennessee program that has looked sluggish at best in the past 5 or 6 seasons. He is a very smart coach and an offensive mastermind. Tennessee has had problems on the offensive side of the ball in recent years, so I hope (and think) that Kiffin will be able to show them how to get the job done.

At a sports bar today during the lsu/ark game, a Georgia fan was giving it to me over this hire, telling me "richt will eat his lunch every year." LOL!!! Richt's overrated---UT will start owning UGA soon with Kiffin.

in my honest opinion, in due time lance will turn ut around, i have a good feeling about this coach and what he can do. i truly think he can make ut a terror among the sec. i also think the rest of the sec is a bit scared now, knowing what he can bring to the table. trust me on this. lance was my second choice but he will make ever one forget soon about the last few years of despair.

People complained about Pearl and were dogging him all over the place, and that was in defense of Buzz Freakin Peterson, who as it turns out couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag. So multiply that by a million for whoever replaced Fulmer.

I think there are valid criticisms for Kiffin but geez there would be valid criticisms for whoever they got. If he wins 2 games the next 2 seasons then yeah there's a problem but I think throwing him under the bus before he's even officially announced is a bit much.

I thought the goose laying the golden egg was a good thing...

Is Richt now the CPF of the SEC (minus the NC)?

I just hope we are underestimated for a couple of years. That could lead to some Ole Miss over Florida type wins while we build up some great recruits. I know the opposing coaches aren't so stupid, but the players might not take us as seriously if they think we are rebuilding and their fanbase thinks that Kiffin guarantees an easy win. I like this scenario.

preach on Smokey1, we made a great hire. Recruiting will not be a problem, he's young and kids will want to play for him. If I hear one more idiot bring up his NFL record I'm going to get sick. You don't have as much control as a coach in the NFL. Especially with the Raiders, which is known to be the worst coaching job in the NFL. The players are getting paid millions more than the coach, they can basically say FU. I'm pumped for '09 and the future.
