This is what you might call an "in before" thread. I think I have realized, in my ponderings of UT football, what the narrative of those who categorically dislike Butch Jones will be after we beat 'Bama. The level of cognitive dissonance that it would be necessary to accept in order to dismiss 'Bama as being an excellent football team is too great, I believe, for even these folks. Therefore, if we do beat 'Bama, a tall order to be sure, though I expect we will, the narrative will instead shift to how good UT is, and how they should have beaten TAMU and been more dominant in the first five wins. That way, they can maintain the notion that Butch Jones is a poor coach in spite of the obvious quality of the team itself.

Granted, if we do beat 'Bama, while being ecstatic, I'll be a little extra miffed we didn't beat A&M as well. :hi:

Regardless, this is a good season for the fellas in Big Orange, and it could get a whole lot better Saturday.
Go Vols!

Beating Bama isn't a "tall order"; it is a short order.

Here, Kiffy shows you the true height of Little Nicky.

So you go from "After we beat Bama" in the thread title to "if we beat Bama" before the end of your post.

7 TOs. That's why we didn't beat A&M, and we still almost did it. If we beat Bama, A&M won't matter.

Lol he's trashing people before the game even happened. Get out and feel some sunshine dude. Nobody should care that much about what posters on a forum think.

Hey, folks, thanks for responding.

I'm not going to lose any sleep over what people post in this forum. Just a small observation/prediction. :hi: Can't stop thinking about this darn game in one way or another, and I gotta get my thoughts out somehow! As for it being early to post this, don't you think it's a little gutless when people start demanding that the "NegaVols" "eat crow" after the fact? Gotta stick one's neck out beforehand, otherwise one has no right to talk trash.

Thanks for the clarification. I was still in limbo as to whether you were hedging with your OP.

Well, it is true we should have beaten TAMU and done better in the other games. Of course that's true of most every winning team. It should be noted that of the teams we have played so far, UGA and Ohio have the worst record at 4-2. We've beaten some pretty good teams overall, a very tough slate.

VT has a shot at the ACC title, I think they make the ACCCG for sure and they are piling the points on everybody they play. We spotted them 2 TD's and then whipped them like government mules. UF was spotted 3 TD's and then run off the field like the mangy dogs that they are. We spotted UGA a lead, gave them a free Hail Mary pass, then still beat them. Shoulda coulda woulda against TAMU, all we heard was how their D was going to stop us but they gave up the record for their school. Only 7 TO's kept us from hanging 60 on them and closer to 900 yards of offense.

There we go, the sunshine has officially been pumped into this thread.

Florida falls to pieces and is a non-factor. Correct the turnovers and we are fine.

Plan B all the way to Tampa.

Well OP, I'd celebrate the victory with my friends and family and not worry about what a segment of the fanbase thinks...

That being said, I've got my "apologist -vol narrative thread" on stand by in case the Vols lose

It depends on what Butch does when the game is tied at 28 in the 4th quarter with, say, 3.5-4 minutes to play and the Vols have got a 4th and 2 from, say, the bama 33. And let's say the game is tied at 28. FG, punt or go for the first?

On the other hand, what will the sunshine pumpers say after we lose by 21?

What will the Negavols say if we do win? Oh I know:

"Bama handed us the win due to too many turnovers."

"One of Bama's best players got hurt."

"We should have dominated Texas A&M since we've beat Bama."

"Butch should be fired due to all our players transferring or getting into trouble."

It'll be something along those lines I bet.
