So you’re saying the Vols should simply stop recruiting high school QB’s since the staff is going to use the portal to recruit over them year after year. Yeah, that’s going to work out great. Or, the Vols become known as a team that consistently uses the portal to recruit over the high school QB’s to the point that eventually there won’t be a high school QB willing to look our way.
Meanwhile, you expect GMac and Merk to sit idle while the staff recruits another “more experienced” QB over them. How in the world will GMac or Merk get experience if they’re not given a shot? If I recall correctly, GMac was a 5 star at some point where as Merk was a 4 star. They’re both talented QB’s, GMac having a much higher ceiling.

From what I recall, next years schedule is murder anyway. I don’t care who the QB is, it’s going to be a tough year. I’d rather let GMac and Brandon fight it out on the field so that in the 2027-2028, we can make a run with a QB that’s been in the system for a while. GMac and Brandon were both 5 star QB’s at one point. They are both very talented.

Many many of us fail to realize how highly touted GMac was. Wiltfong said multiple times that college coaches, whose entire careers depend on these kids, had Bryce Underwood as 1a and GMac as 1b.

He might have some Ty Simpson and him too with his granddad being a former coach.

Personally, I think he takes the job and runs with it If he puts on a few more pounds. Kid has potential to be a stud.

I don't think we should go QB shopping in the portal unless Merk or Gmac transfers or Faizon flips. If any of those scenarios happen, you go get the best QB you can from the portal and have a true open competition for QB1.

Doesn't look like he's seen the weight room since he's been on campus. He has no biceps at all.

Next year's schedule is not any worse than this year's, aside from having an extra SEC game. But nearly every team we face will have either a new QB, a new HC, or both.

Arky still stinks and is losing a great QB and will have a new HC. Auburn likewise doesn't have a QB or a HC currently. LSU doesn't have a coach and who knows what happens with Nussmeier. Ty Simpson is probably going pro so Bama is looking for a new QB. Vandy will have a new QB and maybe a new HC. A&M probably loses Reed to the draft. SoCar is already speculated to be losing Sellers and Beamer's seat is on fire.

We will most certainly pull a QB from the portal. Whether it's a plug and play starter or just someone directly for depth/competition is to be determined. But we certainly are not going into 2026 with GMac and Brandon as our only 2 scholarship QBs.

I like Gmac but he was 3rd string this year. Playing away games in the SEC will be a nightmare for us

Not disagreeing but I don't see how you find a QB in the portal willing to come in and just a be backup unless he is not good enough to start anywhere else and then you wouldn't want him play. Glad Heuple gets paid the big $ to figure this out.
