CLK and UT have reported 3 secondary violations since his hiring in December. The Nega-Vols and Fulmerites have come out of the woodwork bashing the new coach.

The local media has chimed in on it because they lost their inside connection with Fulmer. The minions at KNS and Sports Animal could not form an unbiased opinion if their lives depended on it.

The national media jumped on it because of the remarks Kiffin made at a booster function calling out Meyer. The big bad Foley whining to the SEC only escalated the spotlight.

All of this has resulted in the goodie 2 shoe fans from the previous regime getting restless and has swayed some anti-fulmer fans to rethink their position.

These violations are not uncommon at every school in the country. Sarkisian at UW reported 2 violations in Jan. yet it did not make the news on ESPN...wonder why? EWU lost scholarships because of violations and are banned from post season play this year but yet no mention in the media.

There are other schools with violations other then the 2 mentioned, I chose to use those schools as examples.
Bottomline is as long as these violations stay minor, we stay in the news and come this fall our team shows improvements who cares. There is alot of time before football season starts, until then we should reserve our opinions on the staff until we see them perform. All of the trolls coming here do so for the laugh to see how the fans are split. It is time to build a fence around Vol Nation, unite and let the chips fall where they may.

Kind of refreshing to have a bad boy attitude given to the Vols. No more Mr. Nice Guy. Hope it carries over to the on the field performance.

The chips are going to fall where they may whether Vol Nation is united or not.

I want to see this football program win football games. At the same time, I do not want to see the program on probation of any kind.

Minor now, but what does it lead to?

Fulmer is irrelevant to what is going on now.

I am totally behind Kiffin to win football games, I wish he would shut his mouth and just coach football.

Exactly. The bad boy image is just going to look that much worse if get trounced by UF and UA again this year. Is it really too hard to just go out there and coach and leave the results on the field? At least win a few games before you start spouting off.

At least we are not winning the race....

USC reported 11 secondary violation from July to December of 2008 in its summary to the NCAA.
Meanwhile, in the Wellness Report during the last six months, USC performed 661 tests for drugs of abuse. From those tests, there were five positives for marijuana. USC also had one positive..........

I agreee. CLK needs to focus on getting the Program back on track (which he seems to be doing) and keep his mouth shut. Everyone knows now that he is not going to take any crap from other coaches and he is going to instill a great work ethic to the team, but he doesn't have to keep beating the drum and making incendiary comments. Winning games is much more intimidating than running off at the mouth.

Exactly. Reminds me of the situation of Sarah Palin after the Republican convention, where she galvanized the conservative base and the liberal press set out to destroy this perceived threat...........Same way with the Bammer, Florida and Georgia lackeys in the media. They seem overly concerned with minor gaffes by CLK. (You have to admit they are very trivial).

Of course our coach will eventually have to perform with on the field sucess, which, unfortunally Gov. Palin did not do, e.g. Katie Couric interview.

Gman, I was an advocate for change to move Fulmer out in 2005 and very excited about the plan that Kiffin walked in with in December. But the one thing I do not want to be is a cheating program like Alabama. And the smoke is getting thicker. You may be excited right now with the brashness of this staff, but I am predicting right now that we will suffer next recruiting season when the other coaches in this conference walk into player's homes and tell their parents that Kiffin is a liar and a cheater. Kiffin is providing plenty of evidence to support their case.

I hope that Kiffin is successful because we are starring at disaster if this thing blows up, but he needs to show some credibility and maturity and shut his mouth and get to work.

Why are you suggesting LK has a "Bad Boy" image. Did he ride up on a Harley, with tats and long hair? He is a clean cut, youn man, who has changed a goody-to- shoes, holier than thou image that Tennessee has had ever since Fulmer took over. Talkin smack doesn't make you bad! Blowing a smoke machine and having recruits mock a press conference doesn't make you a bad coach that will put us on probation for life. Ease up a little on the negativity!!! We are probably going to loose to FL anyway, regardless if LK called out UM. Loosing by 1 or 70, is still a lose!

there's a difference between being negative and honest. I used the term bad boy because someone in the thread had already used it. I couldn't care less about the smoke machine and mock press conference, but it's one thing to say you're going to beat Florida, Bama, UGA, etc, it's another thing to start running your mouth and talking smack before you've had a chance to back it up.

I guess having confidence in your own abilities is a bad trait. Sometimes you got to toot your own horn, 'cause no ones gonna toot it for ya.

Fine. Say "We Will Beat Florida". Don't continually make stupid comments accusing other coaches of cheating or being dirty in recruiting when they aren't. That's just stupid.

I don't think LK is quite a bad boy. Maybe a whinny little b*tch. He is nothing but a prodigy of media hype and you can bet we will be under everyones microscope with Coach O's past history. I have and will always support UT no matter who the coach is but we are going to crash and burn with this punk ass running the show!

Agreed. I don't think you that are not recruiting-minded really realize the battles that face this staff in the homes of young men across the South. It's not the perception from the media we have to worry about. It is the negative recruiting that is 100% likely to go on. And before you retort with some wise ass comment about a recruit not believing negative recruiting and it not affecting us - look at the situation with David Oku right now as a prime example of how it has. I promise you at least half of the other guys we have lost have been due to negative recruiting of some kind.

There may be some underlying concerns as to the reasons for Kiffin's mouth farts as well.

The fact that he even spouted off about a HS is the kind of stuff that worries me. Why trash a HS? Especially when it was proven his remark (like so many others he has made) was false.

Anyone who believes that a rival such as UF or UA will use comments for bullentin board material to run the score up obviously does not understand the rivalry to begin with

Maybe!!! I just see it differently. I think he knew he was wrong and that it would immediately draw the ire of UM and AD Foley. With this move, he fired up the attendees and pissed off UM in the process. Two birds with one stone. In one word, Strategy!!!

I agree I hope this is the last thread on rules violations. I have been doing some research on this since everyone has been go nuts about a couple of minor violations. This is very common in college athletics. I have read most schools self report 25-30 of these a year and we have misinformed fans going crazy over 3. We cannot compete in the SEC with fans going haywire over a few minor violations when every school in the country is getting theses. Georgia and the saint Mark Richt had 17 violations.
We cannot set back while every coach in this conference pushes the envelope on recruiting and hope that our family atmosphere wins out because it want and has not in the past couple of years. These players of today are different. We have to be proactive and push the boundaries. I not saying it's ok to cheat but we have to do what ever it take to compete.

To be honest, I worry more about what he is saying out of the media light if this is the kind of stuff he's saying in public. How long is he going to have the support of the team if this is his style? He is doing a lot of things right, but having the full support of the team is paramount in the business of coaching. Right now the team loves him, but how many losses is it going to take before they stop believing in the guy that mouths off in front of the players, coaches, and the media? If Kiffin is saying these kind of things in the public eye, then one can only imagine the kind of things he's saying in practice.

I am a supporter and an optimist, but I have watched this game closely for a long, long time and there are certainly reasons for concern at this point.

These "grand design" theories are absolutely laughable IMO. If Kiffin had some kind of plan in place for pissing off the rest of the conference, he would be doing it with more care and more tact.

Sab, do you think the years of Fulmer recruiting 5* talent and having them ride the pine over 2* seniors, had a negative outcome for our recruiting. Better yet, recruiting at a position and telling them they will play that position, only to move them to another postion once they get on campus. Not being disrespectful, but just wanting your opinion!

What tactical advantage did referring to Bryce Brown as a great player on a Knoxville radio show provide?
