Or or or ... we were promised a large (short) piece of filet mignon (ex-bucks coach) and were pissed with our 22 dollar steak from longhorns. We couldnt just act like spoiled ungrateful brats cause we were getting a steak but... THIS ISNT WHAT I WANTED !!:cray::spank::finger3:

The media painted it as if Tennessee fans were upset that we didn't land a big name coach, and so we latched onto Schiano's Penn State baggage to protest the hire. The media didn't do their due diligence. We're not picky. Tennessee supported Dooley and Jones. We might have grumbled for a day or two, but we didn't protest. What you saw with Schiano was moral outage.

Case in point, the Alabama trueblood we hired has never been a head coach, and he's bringing an offensive coordinator who doesn't even call plays. They were just temmates at Alabama. Pruitt is a lackluster hire by any measure. Yet, Tennessee fans are licking it up. They are calling in one after another on Knoxville radio, celebrating like we won the championship, thanking Fulmer for landing such a great head coach.

The truth is...Tennessee fans will savor whatever chopped liver you give them. They're not like Auburn or Florida fans who demand quality. The media couldn't have been more wrong about our reaction to Schiano.

I agree...the media is ALMOST always wrong but you strayed way off the correct path....Football numbers just don't lie when dealing with CJP...now he may not have the success we want here but there is a lot to be excited about on this hire...and if you think Vol fans will accept whatever they've been given I'll refer you back to the last 9 years...end of story...

I think Schiano would have been a bad recruiter...and recruiting is absolutely HUGE. To get a guy considered one of..if not THE best recruiter in the country? That is something to really be stoked about.

I think the OP is right about the national media being wrong about us....but he's wrong about us willing to accept any garbage coach they throw at us.

Schiano would have been a disaster at Tennessee. We are better off going through the disaster we created now (pulling the offer to Schiano, firing Currie, etc.) in order to avoid a bigger one a couple of years into Schiano's tenure.

Schiano likely would not have been able to recruit, clashed with players and the admin, and been a 5-7/6-6 coach. Can you imagine trying to hire a coach after that mess?

I disagree on how much your laying on the morality issue. There were two issues, a moral one and the dude just had a terrible reputation as a head coach. I was railing against him due the latter and didn't even know about the PSU dilemma till others' outrage started.
I thought it was odd the university wanted someone who had that accustion after all this Title IX stuff but YES! Why would we want someone who is worse than Jones?

Completely disagree! Well almost! I do agree the national media got it wrong as far as during the circus they proclaimed "Not a chance we get a good Coach now" well they were wrong!! Dead wrong! Even some felt we did not deserve one. I had leach Mullens and several others. Did not see this coming! Thank you Coach FULMER! What a pleasant surprise. Thank you for not hitting the panic button like the most of us. And using your wisdom and the respect you carry To not only bring us a high caliber future but really enjoying the quality of staff that this obvious respected Coach is bringing together. A True SEC EXPERIENCED COACHING CREW. Competition will be tough recruiting. Period! Like Coach P. Said " Don't worry bout the ones we didn't get! Focus on the ones we did!...AIGHT!

Pretty sure it wasn't moral outage. Just sayin.

How you view this hire depends on what reference point you use.

If you told fans on the day Butch was fired that we'd end up with Jeremy Pruitt, I think people would mostly be underwhelmed. Nothing like the reaction people had with Schiano, but underwhelmed.

If you told fans on the day Butch was fired that during the upcoming coaching search Greg Schiano would be offered the job then have that offer rescinded, followed by Currie's own firing a few days later, and then we'd get Jeremy Pruitt, the reaction would be one of disbelief at how we could end up with a coach that good given the circumstances.

Jeremy Pruitt is about as good as we could end up with given the circumstances.

Perfect summation.

The CJP ball washing club is calling for a 5-7 season next year.

The second part of your request is, based upon other word-vomit produced by said individual, nearly if not completely impossible.

There are a lot of people on this board who love Fulmer more than they love Tennessee. They do not feel the Fultanic is capable of steering us wrong. They would have taken Dooley back if Fulmer had spoken positively of him. We're just trying to make a bowl game with this hire. We're just hoping to attract recruits who aren't quite good enough to go to Alabama A in Tuscaloosa or Alabama B in Georgia. We're just striving to be middle of the pack Alabama C in Knoxville.

Yeah, we would take Dooley back because Fulmer says so. :eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol:

Holy ****.

You're trying too hard with your name, and your post here gives away your true allegiance.

Bammer poser. Where's the rope?!?

1. What kinda drugs are you currently taking or are you in recovery?

2. If you are really this dense and misguided, maybe you should find a new hobby. Spelunking and cliff diving are nice safe hobbies.

If not for the perception about his "connection" to PSU situation, he would be here now. Note: I use quotes because the truth may never be known.

The reaction to Schiano was pretty bad. And uncalled for....

But it was Tennessee fans finally coming together to scream enough from the administrators. AND THAT WAS VERY MUCH NEEDED!

Was a bad look, but it had to happen at some point to start the change.

Still don't understand this perspective. Proud that Tennessee fans did what we did. The man had/has question marks that we don't need here. Shame on the people on the inside that thought this was a good idea. The man may be completely clear of anything in all that Penn State nonsense. Then again, he could have totally done everything that was said of him. What would that have done to our program if he came and then later it was confirmed? The man hasn't done enough to clear his name IMO. It doesn't look like anyone else is beating his door down to hire him either.

I still say the media went overboard on fans rejecting a bad hire. They went bonkers over nothing. Currie was wrong to offer Schiano the job,but made it worse racing around offering the job to everyone and anyone. He looked desperate and stupid because he was both. The perfect storm continued by many schools needing a coach and very few good quallty coaches to fill those slots. To be real honest there were not many good coaches out there and I'm including Gruden and Kiffin who are both over hyped and never going to come to Tn.
