The mystery that is the 2015 Sooners

I believe fans from both teams will be holding their breath in Neyland until the end of the game because of the unknowns from both sides. Both teams are obviously very talented but as college football fans, you and I both know that talent does not necessarily translate to wins. Coaching/play calling, injuries, motivation at key moments, knowledge of the plays being called, etc all affect the outcome of a game. I think our game could come down to who makes the least mistakes and may not depend on which team is taller/faster/more athletic.

When teams are relatively even in talent, smart football wins.

this sums up dooley's years coaching:banghead2:

But our starting QB absolutely blows. Guess Dormady's really coming along for a true freshman, eh?

I didn't know our starting QB absolutely blows. By all accounts Dormady is coming along very nice.

I appreciate the OP. I have been concerned about this game all along but also having an impulse to believe UT has a good shot at it.

This game should a great early test of where we are gonna go this year. That being said I am afraid of the "sky is falling" that could happen if we were to lose. This is the most hyped up game since the Florida game when gameday came. They just sent out an email to students saying that over 13,000 students have requested a ticket for the game.

The only way to turn the corner is to start winning games. Especially big time games at home.

I believe we have a good chance to win, but I think it won't be decided either way until late in the game. It would be wonderful to see us run the ball and eat some time off the clock. OU's offense makes me nervous, real nervous.

I am hopeful, as the atmosphere will be off the charts, we don't come out a bit too amp'd up and make a lot of silly mistakes early in the game.

Good post owen, it's nice hearing the scoop from someone who obviously follows the program.

Why does OU's offense make you so nervous? They have a new system and we have a top 15 defense in the country. Don't be afraid to win.

Vols win by double digits..JMHO but there has been too much change at OK, and too many unknowns.. if the game was played later in the year I would give OK a much bigger chance of winning. We would be banged up from our SEC schedule and OK would know a lot more about its QB and defense as a whole..

But with the game so early in the year, I feel like it plays into UT's hands because we know what we have at QB.. we know what we have at defense. and we know what we have at RB.. And those will be the areas that win the game for us.

I'm not afraid, they will put up some points though. The QB is solid.

I get they are installing a new system, but Stoops has a way of getting his teams up for SEC opponents. I just don't see us winning this game as easily as some think. If we do, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong, but till then I think it will be decided late in the 4th qtr.

Another thing is we couldn't block Stryker last year and he wreaked havoc in our backfield. I am hopeful he's not as disruptive as the last game, and it makes me feel better having Dobbs back there opposed to Worley. Make no mistake about it, he will cause some grief.

The flip side of that is that our DL should do the same. I think it's gonna be a damn good game.

Stryker will be a non factor this year.

I have to say that OU switching to the 3-3-5 defense will help Tennessee's O-line. especially the guards who will have to attack the Lbs to get the run game going. If OU blitz's a lot then Tennessee will thrive on the QB and RB draws. only advantage of the 3-3-5 is having more personal to cover the slot receivers.

I have to say that OU switching to the 3-4 defense will help Tennessee's O-line. especially the guards who will have to attack the Lbs to get the run game going. If OU blitz's a lot then Tennessee will thrive on the QB and RB draws. only advantage of the 3-4 is having more personal to cover the slot receivers. But does OU really want OLB's covering Von Pearson, Josh Smith and Jennings???

Change font to blue, or read OP again.

Last year he could pin his ears back and go for QB on every play.. they knew worley was not going to run it. So it was open season.. it will not be that way this game. They will not be able to pressure dobbs like they did to worley

I agree, all I'm saying is he will make his presence known.

OU is switching to a 4-3. Actually, the reports out if camp say our base D could be a 4-2-5 with three down linemen and Striker standing up at the opposite DE. In the final analysis we will be multiple on D but there is no doubt that Striker will be turned loose.

Excellent post OP. It was a good write up and very informative. The only thing you left out was your official prediction. So what say you? Lets hear it big guy! Obviously I like the Vols in this exciting match up. 34-27 is my official prediction.

I have said all along that this game reminds me of our game with the 'Noles in Talahassee. It was not decided until late in the 4th qtr.I'll say OU by 7 but a nail bitter.

Thanks for the information op. I was unaware there had been so much turmoil in that staff. I'd be real worried if I were a Oklahoma fan. This is a classic trap game for one thing.also, yall have a new qb and a mostly new coaching staff coming into a team that's found a qb...to go along with chemistry amongst a bunch of players and this staff. Ut is desperate for that signature win and everyone has had this game in mind for a long time

I am so excited to be coming to Knoxville next week. You folks seem to be real knowledgeable about your team as well as football in general. My concern for this game is my respect for Tennessee football. Most Sooner fans are not overconfident. Having said that, Our qb is quality and our backfield is scary good. Our secondary is where most of my concern lies. Regardless, I am looking forward to the game and getting inside Neyland Stadium and enjoying college football at its finest. Here's to Tennessee winning all but one game this year. :victory:

If we just take care of the ball I think we'll win. We can't be giving the ball away 2-3 times and still expect to win. We've been pretty good about protecting the football I think and getting take away but as Butch says about everything "it's critical". Should be a hard fought game and will give us some insight for both teams as to where we go from here.

Great read. What concerns me the most is what Stoops usually does after a "disappointing" year. OU typically kills it the next year.
