I swear it doesn’t matter if we beat Florida,Alabama, lsu in a season. We could start the season 9-0 but we would find a way to lose against South Carolina and Vanderbilt 😂😂.
It’s not funny but good lord only Tennessee could beat those teams, and find a way to get blown out against South Carolina and lose our starting qb in the process of playing for a playoff spot.

I think this weekend is gonna tell us a lot about Heupel, as bad as it hurts to say, this vandy game is huge for us. Can Huepel right the ship and get the team together after this?? Or are we going to see what the other coaches would do and let this season totally implode?
I will say I believe coach Huepel and I think he’s gonna take the steps necessary to removing the toxicity and make some coaching changes in the offseason.!! GBO!!

Agree with that....Hate Bama with the best of them but they have handled it well being the hunted game after game for several years.....UT right now is having trouble playing as the hunted and not the hunter....We will get there I'm sure but it takes time.

I hear ya and I thought the same thing. I don’t know if it’s a TN thing but it is similar to Bama beating Auburn, LSU, TN only to lose to Ms State. If it was our sole loss, then it wouldn’t be as bad as most teams lose one each year. However, we had a path to the playoffs by beating two avg to below avg teams while also needing USC or TCU lose a game. I don’t understand what happened and how it happened as TN has athletes on defense. I think TN stopped USC’ offense twice and the rest were scores?

I don’t think Vandy is a given. Their psyche wasn’t good last night due to the BS in the locker room. All brothers fight so hopefully they figure it out and get onto the same page and beat Vandy. But I am not as confident as most that Milton is the guy. Plus I think Vandy can move the ball on us as we saw this movie last night.

They showed yesterday the only schools to go undefeated in SEC back to back yesterday. Fla, Alabama , & now Ga.

Tennessee was 1 win away in 3 yrs of doing it 4 yrs in a row (all losses to Fla in ‘97, ‘96 & 95). And that was playing Florida, Ala & Ga every year.

We got beat down. They had an excellent game plan. Rattler came out hot and we had no answer. We knew we had defensive issues. Everyone jumps on the secondary but if Rattler was sacked he couldn’t throw the ball. No one on our defense scares anyone. When we had Derek Barnett offenses were looking to see where he was on every play. SEC road games are tough. When was the last time a team rushed the field after beating us. The talent is coming in. We Are Back!!!!!

Really isn’t the most Tennessee thing ever. We don’t have a long history of choking. And our recent history is more about never having a shot at greatness than falling just shy of it.

2001 against LSU, 2004 against Notre Dame, 2005 entire season, 2007 against Cal and Alabama, 2008 entire season, 2009 against Auburn and UCLA, 2014 against Florida, 2015 against Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, 2016 against South Carolina and Vandy, 2018 Georgia State and BYU, 2019 entire season, 2021 against Pittsburgh, Ole Miss, and Purdue, 2022 against South Carolina.

We choke a lot. All games we were leading, should have won, or were just dreadful matchups.

Half our March Madness tournament appearances on the Men's side are chokes as well. Baseball choked massively this past fall as well.

Tennessee is one of the most brutal programs towards its fan.

So true. I hadn't seen So. Carolina play all year, but seeing the scores and hearing some of the comments about them I assumed they were simply hot trash. What amazed me was that a team full of the type of athletes they have all over the field could be as average as they've been all season. Now it helped that there was clearly something awry with UT, but it shows the small margin of error in this league, because there is talent everywhere.

Doesn't make last night any easier to take, but there's an attitude on here that we just need to show up and fire up the machine, and a win is forthcoming. Maybe we'll be at a point in 2-3 years when that can happen like at Alabama for most of the last decade, but right now our talent level is realistically still in the middle of the SEC pack for the most part. We won this year with a great scheme and some otherworldly performances by a few players, and maybe it caught up with us last night when there were some extraneous issues.

It is hard. You have to build momentum and use it to recruit well and achieve success, which leads to better recruits and more success. You have to take advantage of your opportunities when you're in our position--and we blew it last night. Lost a lot of the momentum we'd build up this season, lost a chance for a ton more positive publicity that would have come with a playoff berth. And now there is an expectation that we will "take a step back" next year. If we do, then we will have lost more momentum. It's really our schedule that kills us more than anything else. Who else in America plays Florida, Georgia and bama every year, for starters. Florida has certainly fallen off a bit in recent years--but they've been a very strong program for a long time. Playing bama every year is a tradition--but doing so has not been good for the program.

So, in other words, any loss to you is automatically considered a "choke". Never mind that there's a team on the other side and that performances with athletes, especially college kids, can have a ton of variance. There were some tough losses in that group, but losing a game and choking aren't always synonymous. Sounds like any loss you really took hard was automatically a choke job.

It’s plain and simple about the talent level and depth. The talent pool is middle of the pack at best. Speed needs to be on both sides of the ball not just offensive skill positions.

When you have the best recruiting classes year after year after year... it gets A LOT easier. What do Bama and UGA have in common the past several years? Jimmies and Joes>X's and O's. Bank it.

Well, for starters Auburn gets to play Bama and Georgia each year. Plus LSU. Honestly I would rather play Florida every year that. LSU.

Our schedule is our schedule. We know what it is.
.
I place.my level of disappointment at last night's results fully on myself. I allowed myself to buy in-fully. I held back when everybody else was on board. I didn't buy in until after Bama. I made a big mistake. I don't want to ever care as much as I did this season again. It's a game. It's just not worth it. I'll watch the games. Attend when possible and tickets are reasonable. Not gonna move heaven and earth to get there and leave gaping holes in my accounts just for tickets though. Nope. I realized over the last 15 years it was just a game, why the hell did I allow myself to forget that this season?

Gotta find a way to beat Vandy without a defense and backup QB. I’ll admit I’ll be impressed if he figures it out but I seriously doubt it happens at this point

I can remember years ago on this site fans frothing over bringing back Kiffin for petes sake ( what is their record? ) Same thing where fans said we should have gone after the nut job who is at Ms State now ( again, what is their record ?). The SEC is a mine field every season and any school is lucky to get thru a season undefeated within the conference.

I want to see Milton work through his progressions consistently and not throw a bomb and hand off into the teeth of the defense . He's shown he can do it. No better time than now to show the world that Hooker was an excellent player, but Tennessee is more than 1 guy.

I have to give Kirby his due he can sure land them 5 stars. I'm sure he could do the same with a team of 3's.

Jordan Davis, Eric Stokes, and lots of other 3 stars have been drafted. So yeah, Kirby could and has done it with 3 stars. Dan Jackson, a walk-on, was a starter in our secondary last year and this season prior to getting hurt.

Ladd McConkey is a 3 star as well.
