The most telling quote to me at the presser:

I thought he did good. Not slick, but polished. Driven but, seemingly, unrigid. Seems to believe the teams (all of the sports) are one bigass team representing the university and are expected to support each other. That's what teams do - build each other other. He is the face of UT sports now and I think recruits and their families will find that appealing. Just my dos pesos.

Yeah,
We got lucky to real him in, think he already turned down Southern Cal. and Georgia.

If he doesn't get a blank check to get our coach, that will be a BAD mistake.

If they trust the man enough to make the hire and run the department, there are probably suggested limits to the $$$, but if he is a competent as we are led to believe, he will get it right.

I'd bet this is a guy that has a list on his phone along with research (at all times)
Plus he has a ton of connections with other Universities, thanks to his AD family.
This is the hire where we can say it all turned around. Plus, and it was repeated numerous times, everyone on the same page going in the same direction. FINALLY!!

Now the boosters need to be told to sign checks and keep their opinions to themselves.
Somebody is tossing some cash around. White had $2.5 million buyout and is making $1.8 million a year with annual 5% raises. All that on top of Fulmer getting his buyout. The spigot has opened up somewhere

Hopefully the TN admin has the reached the stage where AL was back in the 90's when they had enough of coaches changes they gave the AD a truck full of $ and said go get the best guy you can.
wait... the VFL Fulmer was not given free reign? And this guy is???

Damn, UT must have enough money to pay the national debt

Liked the fact that he didn't claim "equity in the program" we badly needed a strong and experienced director of athletics for the university, not some highly compensated mascot for the football program running a carnival sideshow in the SEC. Danny White understands the financial and reputational blessings of those schools born in the SEC, but to whom much has been given, even more is expected from them.

Wouldn't surprise me to see President Boyd in the circle of our 4 or 5 largest donors, as a business man, also owning professional sports teams, he understands winning the right way in the SEC is not cheap, it is not immoral and there is no need to stoop to the lowest levels of the gutter to get top flight student athletes to come to Tennessee.

With the loss in revenue due to Covid, I doubt he will be given a blank check unless there are some generous donors. I would think he will have a budget of about 4 million +or - $500,000 depending on experience.

White is rated in the top 5 ads in the country. We paid his 2.5 mil buyout and he's getting 1.8 mil a year.

Why would the admin leave him money-strapped at this point?

I don't think he would have come if 4-5 mil was his shopping limit.

He might not use it, but I do believe if he can land a whale he sure has the $$$ to seal the deal.

Good points here. Nothing before the Danny White hire led me to believe that UT would use such sound logic.
I believe it now though, after this hire. It sure seems like they’re fed up with the BS and they’re to spend whatever it takes to right the ship.

I would imagine he was given the blank check that night in Orlando...
With all due respect y’all must not understand how the real business world works... nobody gets a blank check. As a board or chancellor I might Give you a 4-5 million $ range to hire a head coach but if the AD comes back and says (extreme pie in sky example) I have had backdoor discussions with Sean Payton and his agent and he wants to come to Knoxville for $8M per year. As a good AD you go back to your board and say I need double what u allocated for the best hire it can make and make them love the idea of paying up to get the best coach u can that adds value even at double what they wanted to spend.
Now if you say I just interviewed Butch the intern for Tuscaloosa high school and I want to offer him 8m a year you don’t have a blank check cause there is no way you can justify hiring that guy for more than experienced coaches make.

You sell Your boss what you need to get the job done regardless of how little they want to spend but nobody gets a blank check. Blank check means nick Saban is introduced as the new head coach at UTK for $100m Per year cause he likes money.
See how that works?

With all do respect, my statement is more of a parity. I know business very well and I know people don’t just go out with a blank check. It really my way of saying that money should be no roadblock in getting whoever we want. 🙄
