It might not seem like a very significant thing on the surface, but the chancellor was asked by Brent Hubbs:
“Will you use a search firm for the HC position as you did for the AD position?”

She simply replied
“That’s up to Danny.”

This tells me that Danny White has the keys and passwords and deed and title to the Athletic Department at UT.
This is extremely refreshing to me. The question is this:
When an Athletic Director has full control over the department, will he be given a blank check to give the next coach? Were you impressed with him?
Lastly, I love that he used the word DOMINATE in his first couple sentences. And the search firm asked what he thought about UT and his response was “I can win a National Championship there.”
Will we give him everything he thinks he needs to make that happen?

If he doesn't get a blank check to get our coach, that will be a BAD mistake.

If you watched that press conference today and were not excited as a Tennessee Volunteers fan then you need to quit today and go back another team. The guy was articulate, has an unscripted passion about him for the challenge that lies ahead, KNOWS the challenge that lies ahead, recognizes what Tennessee means, and is confident he can get UT Football BETTER than it has ever been.

It was completely refreshing to see the Chancellor state in no uncertain terms that she has hired that man to run the AD and ALL the decision belong to the man. Tells me she is going to keep her hands off and give him everything he needs to be successful.

SO to answer your question, YES !! I firmly believe that Donde Plowman has given, and will give, Danny White everything he needs to make UT Football a national powerhouse once again.

He accepted the AD job with the hapless, hopeless Tennessee Volunteers, who just fired their football coach Jeremy Pruitt and forced out AD Philip Fulmer amid a scandalous investigation involving a series of major NCAA recruiting violations.

If he (White) has been given full reign of the program, then I hope he acts like it. It's not the next HC's program, it's UT's program, and White is responsible for it. It'll still be here long after the next HC leaves. So I'd like to see hires (OC/DC/etc.) that make sense both in the resume and on the field. No more, 'he's my buddy'.....'I grew up coaching with him' and so on hires. And, please do not make references to BSA. No HC gets free reign to hire who the heck he wants....because UT pays them, the HC doesn't. As AD he represents the University and has been placed in charge of the program. Not the next HC. This simple paradigm shift in who own what needs to change today. If hires are based on that general premise, I'm fine with it.

This hire and forget crap needs to stop.

Now the boosters need to be told to sign checks and keep their opinions to themselves.
Did you read the article in the Orlando Sentinel, I believe? A previous person posted the link. If you have, you would know that Danny is the guy that can get boosters to open their wallets.

I thought he did good. Not slick, but polished. Driven but, seemingly, unrigid. Seems to believe the teams (all of the sports) are one bigass team representing the university and are expected to support each other. That's what teams do - build each other up. He is the face of UT sports now and I think recruits and their families will find that appealing. Just my dos pesos.
