The most positive read this year..

Also this..Chris Scott and Gerald Williams.

LINK

Coach Lane Kiffin said Tuesday evening that left offensive tackle Chris Scott has probably been the team's "most improved" player since spring practice and that junior defensive end Gerald Williams has been "unblockable" most of this week.

Cornerback Mike Edwards from Ohio is practicing and believed to be cleared, but administrators are awaiting word on defensive tackle Marlon Walls, who hasn't arrived in Knoxville.

I'll come out and say it. When the offensive line creates holes, the Vols are historically a good football team. Count me among the many who used to dream of a departure from the "three yards and a cloud of dust" that we had grown accustomed to. The fact of the matter is that I now long for the day that we are hitting opponents in the mouth every play. Those are the emotions that these reports conjure up for me.

Good article and it seems the offense finally has a little confidence. Let's hope it carries forward through the season

Someday soon, I may get to see that door get knocked down...:shades:

i would love for that o-line to step up and give us a couple of 1,000 yard rushers this season. that would be huge for our offense and take some much needed pressure off of crompton. when we run, we win.

Yes... very encouraging read. I pray this newfound "swag" carries on to the field against Florida. There is no game more important to this team's confidence. I don't expect to win, but if we keep it respectably close then that is a boost to build on.

Does anybody remember how the offense did last year in fall practices? Im not trying to be Debbie Downer but it seems they had some success.

I hope it carries over to UCLA....This team needs to focus on their first 2 games before they worry about Florida

glad to hear about the O. It was getting harder and harder to convince myself the old saying "the D should always be ahead at this point" was true.

That might be a little unrealistic. But a 1000 yard rusher would be a good sign for Tennessee. The YPC is the stat that you guys should be interested in though.

2003: 3.89 YPC
2004: 4.65 YPC - SECCG appearance
2005: 3.54 YPC
2006: 3.68 YPC
2007: 4.24 YPC - SECCG appearance
2008: 3.61 YPC

This doesn't take into account a lot of other stats of course, but you can see, in the last 6 years, Tennessee has been pretty mediocre in YPC, but in the years UT averages over 4 YPC, they make noise.

So in my mind, that is the stat to watch.

The line of scrimmage is the PLACE to watch, on both sides of the ball.

Agreed. Tennessee has not been too consistent up front on either side of the ball in a many years. The teams from the 90's would have wiped the floor with the teams from the 2000's.

IMO, that is Tennessee's biggest talent gap with Florida right now. The lines.

First point couldn't be more spot on.

Second point, have the talent BEHIND a decent line will make it appear that much better. That being said we haven't had a dominant RB/QB combo for quite sometime. Knowing the talent can back them up takes a lot of pressure of the lines, but i still agree that games are won and lost up front.

If this team can run the ball, limit penalties, and win the TO margin there is no reason they can't win 8 games.

i think TFP has provided some of the best vol coverage of all the tennessee papers
not even sure we can count the tennessean anymore since they got rid of the vol beat writer. AJC covers the vols more than they do.
