This plant of the genus Drosera is a carnivorous sundew plant, depicted bending and wrapping around its insect prey. The small adhesive balls on its tentacles are exceptionally elastic, capable of stretching 1 million times their normal size.

Brookesia micra is the smallest discovered species of chameleon. An adult grows in length to about only 2.9 centimeters. It is possible that the reptile’s small size is a product of insular dwarfism, a process and phenomenon by which some island species become progressively smaller.

Marsupials, like this red kangaroo joey, undergo a short gestational period compared to eutherian mammals. The corpus luteum isn’t maintained, and a placenta does not form. As a result, the gestational stage in red kangaroos, the largest extant marsupials, is only about 30 days.

They create channels that allow water to drain away as we press our fingertips on to wet surfaces. This allows the fingers to make greater contact with a wet surface, giving them a better grip.”
